It's been quite a week for Sergei Bobrovsky and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The two-time Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender, whose future with the team remains in serious doubt as free agency approaches, was benched for two games on Thursday and Saturday for an undisclosed incident, though it can be best described as conduct detrimental to the team. "There are certain expectations and values that we have established for our players that define our culture," Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen said. "An incident occurred in which Sergei failed to meet those expectations and values, so we made the decision that he would not be with the team for tonight's game. This is an internal matter and we will have no further comment at this time." The 30-year-old netminder, along with teammate and forward Artemi Panarin, has been the subject of trade rumors for much of the past five months as both Blue Jackets are now halfway through the final seasons of their contracts. With no progress … [Read more...] about NHL trade rumors: Sergei Bobrovsky, Artemi Panarin latest
Maybe this is a bias from being around Henrik Lundqvist for just about a decade, but it’s very difficult to understand how a NHL team can keep plodding along without a clear-cut No. 1 goalie. With the exception of the NFL quarterback, there is not another single player on a major pro sports team that is more influential in the outcomes of games than the goalie. Which is why Sergei Bobrovsky’s blowup in Columbus is now casting a shadow over the rest of the league as the Feb. 26 trade deadline is seemingly racing towards us. Already set to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, the 30-year-old Bobrovsky had some sort of “incident” that the team said “failed to meet expectations and values.” Management kept him away from the club for Thursday’s home game against the Predators, but was expected to meet with him before Friday’s practice and he could rejoin the team soon. The plan had seemed to be to let him play out the … [Read more...] about Sergei Bobrovsky is most crucial player around NHL’s trade deadline
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was told by the team to stay away from Thursday night's game against the Predators because of an "incident" it did not detail that "failed to meet (the team's) expectations and values."The website the Athletic reported that the incident occurred in Tampa, where Bobrovsky allowed all four Lightning goals before being pulled in a 4-0 loss Tuesday. Bobrovsky was seen exchanging words with coach John Tortorella as he exited, Canada's TSN TV network reported. In a team statement, general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said "There are certain expectations and values that we have established for our players that define our culture. An incident occurred in which Sergei failed to meet those expectations and values, so we made the decision that he would not be with the team for (Thursday's) game. This is an internal matter, and we will have no further comment at this time."Tortorella declined to answer questions about the situation … [Read more...] about Blue Jackets sit Sergei Bobrovsky for one game citing incident’
At the moment, Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen has no intent to trade two-time Vezina Trophy-winning goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, who is in the final year of his contract before becoming an unrestricted free agent. While the Blue Jackets might stand pat on searching possible trades for the 30-year-old netminder right now, that might change if the 2018-19 season progresses and there is no indication that he will return to the team. At the moment, neither he or teammate and winger Artemi Panarin are expected to sign extensions with the Blue Jackets. The general consensus around Bobrovsky's trade status is that it all depends on how the Blue Jackets start the season. Should they be genuine contenders in the Eastern Conference, expect them to stay in Columbus. If not, he and Panarin could be on the move prior to the league's February trade deadline. If Bobrovsky does become available, it looks like the New York Islanders will be … [Read more...] about Sergei Bobrovsky NHL trade rumors: Islanders all in?
The Columbus Blue Jackets are on the verge of disaster as the futures of two of their stars, winger Artemi Panarin and goalie Sergei Bobrovsky look certain to not return to the team following the 2018-19 season. While we reported on Panarin's interest in the New York Rangers in free agency once he becomes a free agent in July 2019, the other New York team, the Islanders, should be keeping close tabs on Bobrovsky's situation in Columbus. According to the Athletics' Aaron Portzline, contract negotiations between the Blue Jackets and Bobrovsky have been basically non-existent this summer. The 29-year-old is set to hit free agency alongside Panarin next summer and the lack of activity in contract talks is not a good sign for Columbus. Bobrovsky has developed into one of the top goalies in hockey over the past six years. Since joining the Blue Jackets from the Philadelphia Flyers in 2013, the Russian has won a pair of Vezina Trophies as the league's top goalie while owning a … [Read more...] about Islanders NHL rumors: Sergei Bobrovsky watch
