The Columbus Blue Jackets are on the verge of disaster as the futures of two of their stars, winger Artemi Panarin and goalie Sergei Bobrovsky look certain to not return to the team following the 2018-19 season. While we reported on Panarin's interest in the New York Rangers in free agency once he becomes a free agent in July 2019, the other New York team, the Islanders, should be keeping close tabs on Bobrovsky's situation in Columbus. According to the Athletics' Aaron Portzline, contract negotiations between the Blue Jackets and Bobrovsky have been basically non-existent this summer. The 29-year-old is set to hit free agency alongside Panarin next summer and the lack of activity in contract talks is not a good sign for Columbus. Bobrovsky has developed into one of the top goalies in hockey over the past six years. Since joining the Blue Jackets from the Philadelphia Flyers in 2013, the Russian has won a pair of Vezina Trophies as the league's top goalie while owning a … [Read more...] about Islanders NHL rumors: Sergei Bobrovsky watch
At the moment, Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen has no intent to trade two-time Vezina Trophy-winning goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, who is in the final year of his contract before becoming an unrestricted free agent. While the Blue Jackets might stand pat on searching possible trades for the 30-year-old netminder right now, that might change if the 2018-19 season progresses and there is no indication that he will return to the team. At the moment, neither he or teammate and winger Artemi Panarin are expected to sign extensions with the Blue Jackets. The general consensus around Bobrovsky's trade status is that it all depends on how the Blue Jackets start the season. Should they be genuine contenders in the Eastern Conference, expect them to stay in Columbus. If not, he and Panarin could be on the move prior to the league's February trade deadline. If Bobrovsky does become available, it looks like the New York Islanders will be … [Read more...] about Sergei Bobrovsky NHL trade rumors: Islanders all in?
It's been quite a week for Sergei Bobrovsky and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The two-time Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender, whose future with the team remains in serious doubt as free agency approaches, was benched for two games on Thursday and Saturday for an undisclosed incident, though it can be best described as conduct detrimental to the team. "There are certain expectations and values that we have established for our players that define our culture," Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen said. "An incident occurred in which Sergei failed to meet those expectations and values, so we made the decision that he would not be with the team for tonight's game. This is an internal matter and we will have no further comment at this time." The 30-year-old netminder, along with teammate and forward Artemi Panarin, has been the subject of trade rumors for much of the past five months as both Blue Jackets are now halfway through the final seasons of their contracts. With no progress … [Read more...] about NHL trade rumors: Sergei Bobrovsky, Artemi Panarin latest
The gifted forward, who has said he won’t re-sign with Columbus because he plans to become an unrestricted free agent July 1, recently became a client of agent Paul Theofanous, who also represents Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Since Bobrovsky also can become a free agent, speculation has begun that Panarin and Bobrovsky will become a package deal when free agency opens. Not even a Columbus distillery’s offer of free vodka for life could change Panarin’s mind about leaving. “It’s amazing,” he told the Columbus Dispatch. “I feel really good after that. I say it’s harder for me to keep talking about my free agency because I see how people want me to stay in Columbus, and it’s harder, but it’s my life. … We only have one life and I want to, like … it’s 10% of my life, seven or eight years, you know? I want to stay happy every day and I want to see more options.” But first comes the Feb. 25 trade … [Read more...] about Will Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky become a package deal in free agency?
Boston made it a one-goal game with 40 seconds left in the middle period when in a knot of players in front the Columbus net, the puck trickled behind Bobrovsky and over the line. The goal initially was waved off by an official, but a video review determined that play hadn't stopped before the puck slid in. Jake DeBrusk got credit for the goal. … [Read more...] about NHL playoffs: Sergei Bobrovsky backs Blue Jackets to victory over Bruins
