SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF/BCN) — A power loss to the third rail triggered major BART delays to trains in San Francisco Friday morning, officials said. BART officials said the equipment problem at the 24th Street Mission station in San Francisco. The delay started around 7:45 a.m. The delay is due to a power loss to a track’s third rail and is affecting trains on the San Francisco line in the SFO, Millbrae, Daly City and East Bay directions. Meanwhile, San Francisco fire spokesman Lt. Jonathan Baxter said fire crews responded to the station around 7:30 a.m. after trash was discovered burning on the track. “The San Francisco fire department received 911 calls for smoke in the area of the 24th Street BART station,” he said on a Twitter post. “Units arrived on scene quickly and determined that this was trash in the tracks near one of the trains. San Francisco Supervisors Call For Independent Probe Into Corruption At City Departments
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Several San Francisco supervisors are calling for a independent investigation of city departments involved in a growing corruption scandal. San Francisco Public Works Director Arrested On Alleged Public Corruption Charges
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — The head of San Francisco’s Department of Public Works has been arrested on charges of public corruption, federal authorities said Tuesday. Public Works Director Mohammed Nuru, 58, was arrested Monday by FBI agents and accused of several corruption schemes involving city contracts. Businessman and restaurateur Nick Bovis, 57, owner of the famed Lefty O’Doul’s bar and restaurant, was also arrested as part of the probe. Nuru is also the Chair of the Transbay Joint Powers Authority Board of Directors, which administers the Salesforce Transit Center in San Francisco. San Francisco Turns Up Legal Pressure On District Officials To Reopen San Francisco Schools
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — City officials turned up the legal pressure Tuesday on San Francisco Unified School District administrators to accelerate plans to reopen schools that have been shuttered for nearly a year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. City Attorney Dennis Herrera has amended his lawsuit against the school district to add three new allegations including violations of the California Constitution. San Francisco Teachers Union, School District Reach Tentative Agreement On COVID-19 Reopening Protocols
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — After numerous bargaining sessions and mounting pressure from parents and city officials, the union representing San Francisco’s public school teachers and the school district announced Sunday they have reached a tentative agreement on the protocol to return to in-classroom instruction. The tentative agreement covers educators, custodians, engineers, nutrition services workers, clerks, technology support, administrators, construction craft workers, and others within the San Francisco public school system.
