Sacked for social media post

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — There has been an odd twist to the charges of sexual harassment being brought against Gov. Andrew Cuomo . He met his latest accuser at the wedding of one of his top aides, and the aide’s wife is standing foursquare against the governor. Gareth Rhodes must feel like he’s caught between a rock and a hard place — or in this case between his boss and his wife. Cuomo’s latest accuser, Anna Ruch, was a guest at Rhodes’ wedding. Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam, called the coronavirus shot a “vial of death” at an event held this weekend, and falsely claimed that the vaccine has killed people. Videos of the event are found on the Nation of Islam’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. Both social media sites have recently developed policies to combat vaccine-related misinformation. Farrakhan chided black celebrities who have promoted the vaccine, saying that they were ‘being bought and paid for’ by the government and aid in the ‘destruction of your people.’ Louis Farrakhan, the influential leader of the Nation of Islam, continued his crusade against the coronavirus vaccines over the weekend, calling the vaccine a “vial of death” during remarks at the extremist group’s convention, where other speakers falsely claimed that the vaccines have caused more than 900 deaths. A federal judge on Thursday denied Parler's request for a court order that would have forced Amazon to immediately resume hosting the controversial social media platform following its suspension earlier this month. In rebuffing Parler’s request for a swift reversal of Amazon’s ban, U.S. District Court Judge Barbara Rothstein said the social media site, which is especially popular among conservatives, had failed to persuade the court that it would ultimately win its lawsuit against Amazon. “The likelihood of Parler prevailing on its claims is not a close call. Parler’s allegations at this time are both inaccurate and unsupported, and are disputed by evidence submitted by” Amazon, wrote Rothstein, who sits on a Seattle-based district court and was appointed by former President Carter. Parler on Monday announced that it is officially relaunching its platform and it will no longer have to rely on Big Tech to operate. The announcement says the platform has been rebuilt on independent technology, giving it the freedom to run as they see fit after the company was de-platformed by major app stores and web services in January following the riot at the Capitol. “ When Parler was taken offline in January by those who desire to silence tens of millions of Americans, our team came together, determined to keep our promise to our highly engaged community that we would return stronger than ever,” Mark Meckler, interim CEO at Parler, said in the announcement.
