Brain power, not brute strength, may explain how karate experts can break bricks with a bare-handed strike, according to scientists who say years of martial arts training alter the organ's wiring. Researchers in Britain compared the short-range punches of a dozen karate masters to those of 12 physically fit novices and found the black belts' secret lay not in muscle power but an ability to coordinate the peak velocity of their shoulder and wrist. This allowed higher acceleration and a bigger impact force, the scientists say in the latest issue of the journal Cerebral Cortex. The scientists then scanned the two groups' brains, and found that those who threw the bigger punch had changes in the structure of their white matter, which transmits signals between the brain's processing regions. The longer they had been training, the more changes. "The karate black belts were able to repeatedly coordinate their punching action with a level of coordination that novices can't … [Read more...] about Brains, not brawn, for knockout karate punch; Scientists say years of martial arts training alter the organ’s wiring.
The Justice Department admitted there’s no proof to President Trump’s claim that his predecessor had his Trump Tower penthouse under surveillance during the election. Law enforcement officials said “no such records exist” to back up Trump’s assertion, which he made in a series of bombshell tweets on March 4. It’s the first time the DOJ has officially denied President Obama ordered Trump’s residence be bugged last October. “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted in his early morning cyber rant this March. He also called Obama a “Bad (or sick) guy” for ordering the supposed eavesdropping. The explosive accusation created waves throughout Washington, especially since Trump offered up no evidence to back it up. White House officials later said the President was … [Read more...] about Justice Department says no evidence Obama had Trump’s ‘wires tapped’ despite President’s claims

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein—who has been living on Donald Trump’s death row for more than a year—moved a whole cellblock closer to the gallows on Friday after the New York Times dropped this news-cycle cleansing scoop: The piece alleges that in May 2017 he discussed surreptitiously recording the president and raised using the 25th Amendment to remove him from office. At press time, Rosenstein had not been given his last meal or last rites, but the story and the follow-ups by other press hounds have given Trump every pretext he might need to terminate the man who oversees special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s Russia investigation. Rosenstein was livid at Trump in the administration’s early and often chaotic days. As the authors of Friday’s exposé, Adam Goldman and Michael S. Schmidt, previously wrote for their paper in June, Rosenstein felt the president used him to justify the firing of FBI director James B. Comey, and was vocally … [Read more...] about Week 70: Rosenstein’s ‘Wire’ Talk Has Become His Noose
