The top lawyer for Judiciary and Intelligence Committee Republicans testified Monday that there was a “legitimate basis” for President Trump to ask Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to launch a public investigation into the Biden family’s dealings in Ukraine. During impeachment inquiry testimony in front of the Judiciary Committee, minority counsel Steve Castor tried to turn the tables on the Democrat-led investigation into whether President Trump tried to pressure his Ukrainian colleague into investigating a political rival by withholding aid and a White House meeting by arguing that there were real concerns about the former vice president’s son’s involvement with … [Read more...] about GOP lawyer turns impeachment tables by scorching Bidens at hearing

Putin sits down with new Ukrainian leader Zelensky for first time
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met for the first time Monday at a summit in Paris to try to end five years of war between Ukrainian troops and Russia-backed separatists. Both leaders sat down at the French presidential palace along with the leaders of France and Germany for talks focused on reviving a 2015 peace agreement for eastern Ukraine that has largely stalled. The war has killed 14,000 people since 2014, emboldened the Kremlin and reshaped European geopolitics, and Zelensky in particular is keen for it to end.A major breakthrough is unlikely, and Ukrainian protesters in Kyiv are heaping pressure on Zelensky not to surrender too much to Putin at their first face-to-face meeting. But the fact that Putin and Zelensky met at all was a significant step after years of war. Putin and Zelensky faced each other across the table, flanked by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Putin and Zelensky are expected to … [Read more...] about Putin sits down with new Ukrainian leader Zelensky for first time
South Korea Extends Ping-Pong Invitation to Pyongyang
SEOUL - South Korea has invited North Korean athletes to a game of Ping-Pong in Busan next year. The Korea Table Tennis Association (KTTA) says it sent the invitation all the way to Pyongyang through the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), which is holding the World Team Table Tennis Championship from March 22 to March 29 next year. The KTTA is also considering the idea of creating a joint Korean team. So far, no official response from North Korea has been made public, but analysts say the invitation is South Korea’s latest attempt at maintaining momentum in inter-Korean relations. “South Korea’s approach is to engage on all fronts while upholding economic sanctions on North Korea that endure for lack of denuclearization,” Leif-Eric Easley, a professor at Ewha University in Seoul, wrote in an email to VOA News. “Sports diplomacy is a useful tool, but Ping-Pong alone is unlikely to make a breakthrough with Pyongyang.” South Korea’s … [Read more...] about South Korea Extends Ping-Pong Invitation to Pyongyang
Access to birth control widens as Colorado pharmacists prepare to prescribe oral contraceptives
Colorado pharmacists soon can begin prescribing oral contraceptives under a new protocol that will provide unprecedented access to birth control in this state. Women who are at least 18 can complete a questionnaire, blood-pressure check and a 10- to 15-minute consultation with a pharmacist, then walk out with birth-control pills or patches, under new rules set in motion by a 2016 state law with bipartisan support. Colorado is just the third state with such access, joining Oregon and California. The law, passed last year, allowed the boards of medicine, nursing and pharmacy, along with the state health department, to create protocols for pharmacists to provide services that tackle public health needs. At the top of the list, based on a survey of medical professionals, was hormonal contraception. Pharmacies throughout the state are preparing to offer the service as soon as April, and those on or near college campuses are anticipating its popularity among young … [Read more...] about Access to birth control widens as Colorado pharmacists prepare to prescribe oral contraceptives
