(CBS News) Samsung announced Wednesday details of the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet at a press event in New York City. CNET Review: Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1Full coverage of Samsung on Tech Talk The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 features Google Android operating system version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), two cameras and Photoshop Touch. Additional technical specifications include: 1.4 gigahertz processor, Wi-Fi connectivity, 10.1 inch touch-screen display, 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution and 16 GB of flash memory. Samsung says the tablet's operating system will eventually be upgradable to Android version 4.1 (Jelly Bean). One of the highlights of the Galaxy Note 10.1 is the S-Pen, which is the tablet's stylus pen. Filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and fashion designer Zac Posen appeared on stage at the Samsung event to talk about ways they've used the stylus. Samsung's Galaxy Note II is officially available for pre-order on all major U.S. carriers now. The phone-hybrid device, which has been dubbed a "phablet," has proved its staying power. Samsung reported that the first Note sold about 10 million in its first year. The company opened up sales of the Galaxy Note II Wednesday in the U.S. on some carriers, but has now made the device available on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. Samsung announced the Galaxy Note II at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA 2012) in August. The device features a 5.5-inch display at 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, Android 4.1 operating system, front- and rear-facing cameras, 16 gigabyte memory and S Pen. The stakes have never been higher for Samsung's oversize Galaxy Note 4. While Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy S smartphone franchises have duked it out for flagship supremacy, Samsung's other marquee smartphone line, the Galaxy Note, has enjoyed the lack of opposition in serving power users willing to pay up for a much larger display -- a market it essentially created. But the Galaxy Note 4, which will be unveiled at Samsung's "Unpacked" event Wednesday, may no longer be the only legitimate jumbo phone in the market -- Apple is expected to unveil two larger iPhones next week. Just days before Apple is expected to introduce its next generation iPhone, the centerpiece of Samsung's event is its own flagship phones, the large-screen Galaxy Note 4 and a new Galaxy Note Edge.
