By Michael Hurley , CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — Last year, during a painfully rough season, Cam Newton said that he tuned out the doubters and critics who were picking apart his play. This offseason, though, he’s listening. READ MORE: Sareea Freeman On Athletes Unlimited Volleyball: 'This Is My Wildest Dream Coming To Fruition' The quarterback — fresh off signing another one-year deal in New England — made that clear in a new Instagram video. No stranger to posting clips of his workouts, Newton walked up to the camera soaked in sweat to say that after the Patriots’ series of free-agent signings, he’s heard the questions about whether or not he will be able to elevate his own play to make the 2021 season a success. Here’s what he said: I been hearing it. I been hearing it, all right? And now, I’m letting you know that I’m retaliating. Not at you; because of you. So once again, I’m letting you know, [wrings out shirt] that’s lemonade. You feel me? That’s hard work. … [Read more...] about Cam Newton Hears The Doubters After Patriots’ Free-Agent Frenzy: ‘I’m Used To This Feeling’

Maine Republican Party Rejects Censure of Sen. Susan Collins for Vote to Impeach Trump
The Maine Republican Party voted Saturday against censure of Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) for her vote to impeach former President Donald Trump. Following the 41-19 vote, Fox News reported Collins said , “Today’s decision is a testament to the Republican Party’s ‘big tent’ philosophy that respects different views but unites around core principles.” Collins added: Our party has been most successful when it has embraced this approach to advance our shared goals of providing tax relief to families and small business job creators, pursuing fiscal responsibility and government accountability, promoting personal responsibility, protecting constitutional rights, and ensuring a strong national defense. Nevertheless, Maine’s Aroostook County Republicans handed Collins a censure vote for her decision to vote to impeach Trump. Signed by 19 members of the Republican Party from Collins’ home county, the censure resolution can be viewed at Bangor Daily News , and states: Senator … [Read more...] about Maine Republican Party Rejects Censure of Sen. Chambers: Avs goalie Philipp Grubauer, a pending free agent, on pace to more than double his salary
Philipp Grubauer’s statistics suggest he’s worth more than $9 million per season. The Avalanche goalie, a pending unrestricted free agent, leads the NHL with a 1.69 goals-against average, five shutouts, 27 appearances, and 1,600 minutes played. His .931 save percentage and 20 wins are close behind Tampa’s Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy (.932/21), who has a $9.5 million annual cap hit through 2027-28. Vasilevskiy is the NHL’s third highest-paid goalie behind Montreal’s Carey Price ($10.5 million) and Florida’s Sergei Bobrovsky ($10 million). The obvious separation between Grubauer, 29, and Vasilevskiy, 26, is that the latter led the Lighting to the Stanley Cup last fall. Grubauer is bound to strike it rich if the Avalanche does the same this year. Question is, will the Avs be able to afford him? Grubauer, who is on the last year of a three-year deal worth $9,999,999, was asked about his next contract on Friday. “We are so busy and my main focus lays on Vegas (Saturday) and … [Read more...] about Chambers: Avs goalie Philipp Grubauer, a pending free agent, on pace to more than double his salary
Amnesty: Russia’s Foreign Agents Law Is an ‘Assault On Freedom,’ Damaging to NGOs
Amnesty International says Russia's controversial "foreign agents" law is an "assault on freedom of expression" that has caused dozens of NGOs to curtail their operations and others to shut down. "The 'foreign agents' law was designed to shackle, stigmatize, and ultimately silence critical NGOs," said Sergei Nikitin, director of Amnesty International Russia, in a statement released on November 18. In a report , Amnesty marks the nearly four years since the severe law came into effect and shows the damaging effects the legislation has had on Russian NGOs. "It is pretty clear that the main aim of the Russian authorities has been to stifle the growth of a critically engaged civil society and replace it with docile, dependent supporters of government policy," Nikitin said. "This scorched-earth approach to civil society is not in Russia’s best long-term interests." N.Korea to Sever Ties with Malaysia Over Extradition of Citizen to US
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA - North Korea said on Friday it would sever diplomatic relations with Malaysia after the Southeast Asian nation extradited a North Korean man to the United States to face money-laundering charges this week. Malaysia denounced North Korea's move as unwarranted and disruptive to regional peace, adding that the extradition had been carried out according to law. North Korea did not name its citizen in a statement carried by state media KCNA, but Malaysia said Mun Chol Myong, who was arrested in 2019, was extradited on Wednesday after he had already exhausted several legal appeals. "Malaysia denounces (North Korea's) decision as unfriendly and unconstructive, disrespecting the spirit of mutual respect and good neighborly relations among members of the international community," its foreign ministry said in a statement. It said Malaysia would close its embassy in Pyongyang in response and order all diplomatic staff at the North Korean embassy in Kuala Lumpur to … [Read more...] about N.Korea to Sever Ties with Malaysia Over Extradition of Citizen to US
