Jordan Kyrou added a goal and Brandon Saad sealed it with an empty-netter for the Blues, who rode another superb performance from Binnington. You can’t get rid of me. Photo: Noam Galai/Getty Images Bill de Blasio can’t be mayor anymore, no one voted for him for president , and a run for governor was dead before it started, so he’s running for Congress. On Friday, the former mayor went on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to announce he is running in one of the city’s newly formed congressional districts. “The polls show people are hurting. They need help, they need help fast, and they need leaders who can actually get them help now and know how to do it. I do know how to do it from years of serving the people of this city. And so today, I’m declaring my candidacy for Congress in the Tenth Congressional District of New York,” de Blasio said. The news wasn’t exactly a surprise, given he had launched an exploratory committee on Wednesday. In addition to de Blasio, Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou and State Senator Brad Hoylman say they are considering a run. California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he has ‘sub-zero interest’ in running for president
Gov. Gavin Newsom has “sub-zero interest” in running for president in 2024, he told The San Francisco Chronicle editorial board on Thursday. Newsom is running for re-election to a second term as California governor, which would last through 2026. Asked if he would promise to voters that he wouldn’t run for president before the end of that term, he said he believes Vice President Kamala Harris should be the next president after Joe Biden. “Yeah, I mean, I have sub-zero interest,” he said. “It's not even on my radar.” Newsom has made similar claims about having no interest in running for president before, but it hasn’t stopped speculation that he wants to be commander in chief someday. He’s stoked those rumors by positioning himself as a national political figure and publicly sparring with prominent Republicans, including former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis . If he did want to run for president, he faces a political challenge in that Harris is … [Read more...] about California Gov. S&P 500 drops into bear market territory as recession fears mount
New York (CNN Business) The S&P 500 fell into bear market territory Friday, slipping more than 20% from its record high and potentially ending the bull run that began in March 2020. The designation comes on the heels of six straight weekly losses for the index and follows months of precipitous market drops. The S&P 500 has long been considered the most accurate measure of the nation's stock performance. In the three years prior to this bear market, the index grew by 90%. Downward momentum pushed the S&P 500 further in afternoon trading, down more than 2% for the day and 20.3% from its record-high close of 4,796.46 in early January. The index's slide highlights investors' increasingly dark economic outlook—one fueled by slowing economic and earnings growth, rising inflation and the Federal Reserve's subsequent monetary tightening.
