Trump got it right on Jerusalem

· December 5, 2019 ·

Jason D. Greenblatt is a former assistant to the president and special representative for international negotiations in the Trump administration. Follow him on Twitter at @GreenblattJD. The views expressed in this commentary are his alone. View more opinion on CNN. (CNN)On December 6, 2017, President Donald Trump made history. In a bold and courageous decision, he proclaimed what many knew in their hearts: that Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Israel. Trump has long understood that Jerusalem was, is and will always remain the capital of Israel. Jason Greenblatt I was not surprised by his proclamation, because he campaigned on it. I was confident that what I wrote in a 2016 piece, "Trump Gets it Right on Jerusalem," would come to pass. Because the Trump that I know always tries his best to follow through on his promises. Trump was clear that it was still up to the parties to negotiate the final status issues and that the status quo at Jerusalem's holy sites was to … [Read more...] about Trump got it right on Jerusalem

Is Melania Secretly the Smartest Trump?

· December 5, 2019 ·

The best anecdote I ever heard about a First Lady involved Laura Bush. Early in her relationship with George W. Bush, she was taken to his family’s compound in Maine, where Bush kin busied themselves with preppie jock activities like boating or tennis or touch football. “And what do you do, Laura?” asked Bush’s grandmother. “I read, I smoke, and I watch,” replied the retiring Laura. Laura Bush seems never to have cared much for the spotlight she was forced to share with her husband, but as the wife of a governor and then president, she gritted her teeth and did her best impersonation of a political wife. I interviewed her once, on the eve of the first national book fair, of which she was a sponsor (she had been one of the founders of the highly successful Texas book fair, and reading was truly a passion). In the few minutes I was allotted, I tried with no success whatsoever to get her off-script, to say anything spontaneous, but she had her talking … [Read more...] about Is Melania Secretly the Smartest Trump?

Does Pelosi have the votes for impeachment?

· December 4, 2019 ·

close Video Nancy Pelosi on impeachment: Members will make up their own minds House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Democrats are proceeding with their impeachment inquiry in a manner worthy of the Constitution. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called for House Democrats to "proceed with articles of impeachment" against President Trump, but questions remain over whether she has secured enough Democrats to vote for impeachment as the effort barrels forward at breakneck speed. Pelosi, during her televised remarks about impeachment on Thursday, did not suggest any particular timeline for a vote, saying only, "We will proceed in a manner worthy of our oath of office." The timing of such a vote could be indicative of whether Pelosi has enough Democrats to vote to impeach: Pelosi is a master at reading her caucus. If she has the votes, she’ll likely give the green light to impeach on the floor. If she doesn’t have the votes, … [Read more...] about Does Pelosi have the votes for impeachment?
