Trent Brown still has work to do step into the New England Patriots vacant left tackle spot. But the very big man has a chance to play an almost as big a role on the Patriots offensive line. Brown, a 6-foot-8, 380-pound tackle, is the biggest man on the Patriots roster and spent most of his time playing left tackle with the starters at Thursday's practice. He played right tackle during this first three seasons in San Francisco, but he's in the mix to replace Nate Solder on the left side for the Patriots. New England traded a third round pick for Brown and an eighth-round pick after Solder signed with the New York Giants as a free agent. Patriots coach Bill Belichick was pleased with his progress so far. "Trent has had some limitations in what he can do, but he's worked hard. He's working his way back in there. It was good to see him out here the last couple days. Excited to work with him," Belichick said. "He's done everything we've asked him to do. He's been limited, not by his … [Read more...] about New England Patriots training camp 2018: Trent Brown working to win left tackle job

With training camp just days away, the New England Patriots reportedly made a pair of signings, wide receiver Devin Lucien and safety Eddie Pleasant, to bring their roster back up to 90. Lucien, whose signing comes per his agent, was a seventh-round pick of the Patriots in 2016 and spent that season on the practice squad. In 2017, he bounced around four different teams' practice squads before being waved by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in May. Lucien joins a crowded wide receiver corps that could see some surprising players make the roster with Julian Edelman's suspension looming. Pleasant, whose signing was reported by Patrick D. Starr of StateofTheTexans.com, comes to the Patriots after a five-year run with the Houston Texans. Originally starting out as an undrafted free agent, Pleasant worked his way onto the Houston special teams unit and into a backup safety role. He totaled 22 total tackles and a pair of sacks in 2017. The Patriots had two roster spots open due to the … [Read more...] about New England Patriots bring back WR Devin Lucien, sign S Eddie Pleasant
A handful of players, who are battling to make the New England Patriots roster, are starting camp from the sideline. According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, the Patriots showing up on the PUP list are wide receiver Kenny Britt, safety Nate Ebner and cornerbacks Cyrus Jones and Jonathan Jones. Also from Reiss: "Also, WR Cody Hollister opens on active/non-football injury list, and RB Brandon Bolden on active/non-football illness list. All can come off lists at any time." Nate Ebner and Bolden are the probably most secure. Both have history in New England and special teams prowess. Britt, who has a 1,000-yard season on his resume is likely auditioning for a spot in a camp that figures to have a competitive battle at receiver. Cody Hollister is a long shot to earn a spot at receiver and every day he misses lengthens his odds. Jonathan Jones is coming off a season-ending injury and didn't compete in mini-camp or OTAs. He's a candidate to land on reserve PUP (sidelined for first six weeks), … [Read more...] about New England Patriots training camp 2018: Kenny Britt, Nate Ebner among players on PUP list
As a rookie, Malcolm Mitchell showed flashes of potential. In year two, he missed the entire season. Now in year three, the New England Patriots are reportedly looking to see what kind of return they can get for the receiver on the trade market, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Mitchell came on strong as a rookie, catching 32 passes for 401 yards in the regular season. But it was his six catches for 70 yards in the Super Bowl LI comeback that really drove up expectations that the Patriots had found a future star in the fourth-round pick out of Georgia. However, those expectations were derailed in 2017. Mitchell spent months on the PUP list due to lingering knee issues. He eventually returned to practice late in the season but was never activated to the active roster. What's more, Mitchell was notably absent from OTAs earlier this offseason. If healthy, Mitchell has the potential to be a solid outside option for Tom Brady in 2018. However, the Patriots are also well-stocked … [Read more...] about Malcolm Mitchell trade rumors: New England Patriots shopping talented but injury-prone receiver
One month away from training camp, the status of New England Patriots receiver Malcolm Mitchell remains one of the team's biggest question marks. A fourth-round pick in 2016, Mitchell showed tremendous promise as a rookie, emerging as a reliable possession receiver with impressive run-after-the-catch ability. Mitchell, who entered the NFL with medical concerns, missed the entire 2017 season due to lingering knee issues. He underwent multiple knee surgeries in college and dealt with a knee injury late in his rookie season. Mitchell never appeared fully comfortable in the 2017 preseason, as he was seen grabbing his right knee during the team's second exhibition game against the Texans. What's especially disconcerting for the Patriots: After spending the 2017 season on injured reserve, Mitchell was limited in spring practices. He did not participate in team or individual drills during New England's mandatory minicamp in early June. Appearing at a Saturday charity event to promote … [Read more...] about New England Patriots injury news: Will Malcolm Mitchell be ready for training camp?
