Sherlon Christie Asbury Park Press Published 3:23 PM EDT Mar 25, 2019 We’ve seen the “Gronk spike” for the last time. New England Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski announced on Sunday, March 24, via his Instagram account, that he’s retiring from the NFL after nine seasons of wearing the red, white and blue for the six-time Super Bowl champions. When healthy, Gronkowski was one of, if not, the best tight end in the NFL because of his dual-ability to catch passes from Tom Brady and be a force as a blocker in the running game as demonstrated in the Patriots 2019 Super Bowl run. Gronkowski is 29-years-old and he will finish his career with five Pro Bowl invites, four first-team All-Pro selections, three Super Bowl titles (2015, 2017, 2019), and he was the 2013 NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Gronkowski, who was a Patriots second round pick (42nd overall in the 2010 NFL Draft), has only played 16 games twice in his career and that was his … [Read more...] about Patriots Rob Gronkowski retirement: Are career stats NFL Hall of Fame Worthy?

Consider: Gronkowski has the most touchdowns per game of any tight end in NFL history (0.69) He has the most touchdown receptions of any player in Patriots history (79), having broken Stanley Morgan’s record in 65 fewer games. By Kyle Hightower Published 5:08 pm PST, Tuesday, January 22, 2019 FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Even as Rob Gronkowski turned in a vintage performance with his big grabs down the stretch in the AFC Championship Game, the Patriots’ tight end also did plenty of dirty work. Gronk the blocker? The label didn’t fit in the past. But this season, one of the best receiving tight ends in NFL history and Tom Brady’s longtime favorite target made some big contributions to New England’s rejuvenated running game. “Whatever coaches call, whatever plays we call ... blocking, receiving, no matter what is, whatever play is called, (you’ve) just got to go out there and do your job,” Gronkowski said. It was an underwhelming season statistically for Gronkowski, who contemplated retirement after last year’s Super Bowl loss. He appeared in 13 games as he fought through nagging back and ankle injuries, finishing with 47 receptions for 682 yards … [Read more...] about After tough year, Rob Gronkowski coming alive at right time for Patriots
As he hits the end of one of his least productive and most battering regular seasons, it’d be natural for Rob Gronkowski to be down about the state of all things Gronk. Earlier in his career, that might even have been the case. Nine seasons into a Canton-worthy career, though, the party boy at tight end is wise to the ride of the NFL season and adapts accordingly. “You just learn that you’ve got to stay positive. You can never get too down on yourself,” Gronkowski told reporters on Thursday. “That has happened to me before – you get too down and you dig yourself a bigger hole. You’ve just got to stay balanced. It’s a roller coaster season, as you guys have seen all year, but whenever things aren’t going right you’ve just got to stay positive and keep going, keep doing what you need to do and you know you’ll bounce back.” Guaranteed a first-round playoff bye with a win at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, the … [Read more...] about Rob Gronkowski on 2019: ‘I’m going to be all in for the rest of the year’
Through the first six games of the 2018 NFL season, Rob Gronkowski has been good. But in terms of piling up stats, Gronk hasn't quite been Gronk. Gronkowski still leads the New England Patriots in receiving yards. But the team has been spreading out the ball through the air much more as out late -- especially as Julian Edelman Josh Gordon get worked into the offense. Gronkowski hasn't broken 100 yards or scored a touchdown since Week 1. Just looking at the numbers that show up on a fantasy football spreadsheet, his performance has fallen slightly below expectations. Instead, Tom Brady has sought out other targets in the passing game. The tight end was a non-factor for most of the Patriots' win over the Kansas City Chiefs. His end game stat line (3 catches, 97 yards) looks good, but 81 of those yards came on a pair of catches in the final four minutes of that game. Much of that has to do with opposing defenses focusing on stopping Gronkowski in the passing game, … [Read more...] about Patriots not worried if Rob Gronkowski kills your fantasy team: ‘Our goal is not to create individual stats’
