MCALLEN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – An alleged Bandidos Outlaw Motorcycle Organization member from South Texas was sentenced for his role in a conspiracy to transport undocumented immigrants. On Feb. 2, 2021, Benito Lopez III, 53, from Los Ebanos appeared before U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez who sentenced him to seven years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. The court found Lopez responsible for smuggling 25 to 99 undocumented immigrants over the course of a 4-month conspiracy. Additionally, he had created a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury based on the conditions in which he housed the undocumented immigrants. 71 Migrants Found in Texas Human Stash House near Border
Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents continue to find stash houses near the border where smugglers warehouse their human cargo. Most recently, agents in Pharr, Texas, found 71 migrants packed into a single house. Pharr Police Department officers contacted McAllen Station agents about a suspected human smuggling stash house in their border community. The agents and officers teamed up and conducted a welfare check on the residence, according to Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol officials. Migrant Delivers Baby in Frigid Weather on Banks of Border River in Texas
Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents rescued a migrant woman who had just delivered a baby in subfreezing conditions near the Texas border with Mexico. McAllen Station Border Patrol agents received information about a Honduran woman who reportedly delivered her baby shortly after crossing the Rio Grande River near Mission, Texas, Friday evening. The delivery occurred during subfreezing conditions as temperatures in the normally tropical climate fell to 30 degrees. Agents searched and found the woman and confirmed she had given birth. An EMT-trained agent provided medical assistance to the woman and the newborn child. The agents wrapped the mother and child in Mylar blankets and kept them warm in a Border Patrol vehicle until an ambulance arrived.
