To Chicago Cubs fans, Leo Durocher will always be remembered as the manager who blew the 1969 National League pennant to New York Mets. His larger cultural significance, however, was assured decades earlier when as manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers “Leo the lip” observed that “nice guys finish last.” Speaking of Mitt Romney, the man who had incumbent Barack Obama on the defensive after an impressively aggressive performance in the first 2012 presidential before pulling his punches in rounds two and three and losing the election, the new senator from Utah has just publicly blasted fellow Republican Donald Trump for lacking the character needed to lead the nation and the free world. “To a great degree, a presidency shapes the public character of the nation. A president should unite us and inspire us to follow ‘our better angels,’ ” Romney writes in the Washington Post. “A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty … [Read more...] about KEVIN LEININGER: Mitt Romney still doesn’t get why Donald Trump is president — and he’s not

With the midterm elections coming up on Tuesday, CNN and other sources are reporting that NBC and Fox News Channel have now joined CNN in choosing not to air a Donald Trump-approved campaign commercial that CNN calls a "racist anti-immigrant advertisement." The commercial features an announcer warning of a 7,000 person "migrant caravan," and also mentions the case of Luis Bracamontes, an undocumented Mexican immigrant convicted of killing two California law enforcement officers. The ad says America cannot allow this migrant "invasion," and encourages voting for Republicans. Donald Trump, Jr. took to Twitter to say, "CNN refused to run this ad... I guess they only run fake news and won't talk about real threats that don't suit their agenda. Enjoy. Remember this on Tuesday. #vote #voterepublican". In response, the CNN Communications account wrote: "CNN has made it abundantly clear in its editorial coverage that this ad is racist. When presented with an opportunity to be paid to take a … [Read more...] about Report: Fox News, CNN and NBC won’t run Donald Trump anti-immigrant campaign ad
By Martha Ross | [email protected] | Bay Area News Group PUBLISHED: August 22, 2018 at 3:50 pm | UPDATED: August 22, 2018 at 4:47 pm As Democrat Gavin Newsom was recently campaigning to become the next governor of California, he received one of his regular, friendly phone calls from his ex-wife Kimberly Guilfoyle, according to the Washington Post. Former Fox News host Guilfoyle teased the former mayor of San Francisco, whom she divorced in 2006, about how she would send her new boyfriend, Republican Donald Trump Jr., out to California to campaign against him. Then, to make things even more funny, she told the Post she actually put the president’s oldest son and vocal Twitter supporter on the phone with Newsom, who currently is California’s lieutenant governor. She suggested the two men talk about hair products — because they famously share the same slicked-back hair-do. “Gav’s hair is slicked back and Don’s hair is slicked … [Read more...] about Kimberly Guilfoyle had Donald Trump Jr. talk hair products with Gavin Newsom
U.S. Donald Trump President Donald Trump is losing ground with voters in the Midwest, a key demographic that led to his 2016 victory, according to a poll by NBC News and Marist released Thursday. The poll showed that Trump is under water in three midterm battle states. The president currently holds an approval rating below 40 percent in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota and Democrats hold a clear lead in each state for the upcoming midterm elections this November. In 2016, President Trump won Wisconsin by 23,000 votes, Michigan by 11,000 votes and lost Minnesota by just 1.5 percent. Critics of Hillary Clinton’s campaign often cite this focus on the Midwest as the reason the president won and she lost the election. "If just 40,000 people across Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania had changed their minds, I would have won," Clinton wrote in her 2017 book, What Happened. Now, two years later, voters have apparently done just that. In Michigan and Wisconsin, about 36 … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Doesn’t Deserve Re-Election, Say Large Majority of Voters in 3 Key Midwest States
