( CBS Minnesota ) — More than a month of baseball is in the books with minimal COVID issues. Some fans have returned to games, and more hopefully will be back sooner than later. It’s starting to feel like the real thing again. While last season offered quality baseball when the country needed a diversion, it just wasn’t what it could be. This season is different… better. The latest Baseball Report takes a spin around the league to look at some of the recent stories. Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd is calling out the Grammys, blasting the Recording Academy as “corrupt,” and announced his decision to not submit his music to be considered for recognition despite the organization’s latest commitment to reform. Born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, the three-time Grammy-winner was reportedly the catalyst for recent rules changes the Recording Academy made that eliminated the secret nominating-review committees that considered past nominees for awards. China’s annual population report for 2020 will reveal a population decline unparalleled since the era of Mao Zedong, the Financial Times reported Wednesday, prompting Communist Party officials to delay its publication. China has seen a steady decline in its birth rate for the past five years, yet to be reversed by the repeal of its “one-child policy” — which mandated forced abortions, infanticides, and other atrocities for decades — in 2016. The Communist Party allows women to give birth to no more than two children legally now, though few appear to be taking up the opportunity. “ Replacement fertility ,” meaning the number of children each woman in a country must have to fully replace the currently existing population, is 2.1, slightly above the legal permissions in China.
