Hoping to attract more visitors to Jefferson City and provide unique experiences, property owners were pleased when the Jefferson City Council approved their permits to operate short-term rentals Monday night. The council approved resolutions granting special exception permits for 1632 Tanner Bridge Road, 412 Cherry St., 134 W. Circle Drive and 1001 W. High St. so those property owners could offer their residences or spare rooms as short-term rentals. These are the first short-term rental special exception permits the council has approved since it legalized operating short-term rentals in January. The Jefferson City Planning and Zoning Commission approved the permits last month. Under city ordinance, a property owner can offer a short-term rental where someone rents a residence for less than one month. A Lee County Port Authority police report said the rental thefts happened at airports in Fort Myers, Naples, Orlando, and Palm Beach and at smaller rental locations around south Florida located outside airports. Arrested were Rosalyn Ann Jones, 37, Joshua Palacio, 31, and Josue Perdomocruz, 23, all of Miami, and Alexis Bryan, 21, of West Palm Beach. All remain in Lee County Jail. To afford a two-bedroom home in Oregon, you need a job paying at least $21.26 an hour, according to a new report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition. In the Salem area, specifically, renters must earn at least $12.85 an hour to pay for a one-bedroom home or apartment. They need $17.04 an hour to afford a house with two bedrooms. Oregon's standard minimum wage is only $10.25 an hour. And almost 13,000 workers relied on minimum wage jobs in Marion and Polk counties last summer, according to the most recent Oregon Employment Department data.
