WAUPACA, WI — A former Nicolet High School teacher who was accused of sexually abusing multiple students in the 1980s was found dead in his Waupaca home just days after accusations came to light. David Johnson taught math at Nicolet from 1958 to 1991 and led various student organizations. According to Waupaca police David R. Johnson, 81, killed himself in the garage of his home midday Wednesday. According to a Journal Sentinel report earlier this week, Nicolet High School officials reached out to the the Glendale Police Department after the former student came forward to them about the alleged abuse. School officials were told by the police department that the alleged abuse was beyond the statute of limitations for prosecution. The school hired a lawyer and conducted an independent investigation, and learned that Johnson sexually abused multiple students during that period. Evanston Students Send Holiday Cards To People In Prison
From the Illinois Prison Project:December 11, 2019 Evanston, IL — Today, Haven Middle School students and teachers gave the gift of giving to hundreds of people incarcerated at Joliet Treatment Center. Two hundred students wrote holiday cards for people held in the prison, a unique facility that holds and treats people with severe mental illness. The activities with co-sponsored by the Illinois Prison Project, an organization that advocates for a more humane and fair prison system across the state of Illinois. IPP team members Jennifer Soble and Wali Deutsch spoke to seven classes of eighth graders about the isolation some incarcerated people face, especially during this time of the year. Students decorated the cards with messages of holiday cheers, pictures of rainbows and Christmas trees, and words of encouragement. KENNESAW, GA — With the fall semester winding down, Kennesaw State University has been anything but dormant as undergraduate and graduate students demonstrated their research prowess in a pair of on-campus events related to their fields of study.Recently, more than 280 people participated in the eighth annual R Day hosted by the University's Department of Statistics and Analytical Sciences. At R Day, students participated in a poster presentation session in which awards were given for first, second and third place at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, each of the presentations relating to analytics research.
