By Ariel Edwards-Levy Republicans and Democrats disagree on a lot, but as recently as three years ago, members of both parties expressed almost identical views about white people using a racial slur for black people. Asked in a 2015 YouGov survey if white people using the “N-word” was ever acceptable, one-quarter of Americans of all races ― including 23 percent of Democrats, 25 percent of independents and 26 percent of Republicans ― said it was. That’s no longer the case, a new HuffPost/YouGov survey finds. (East Bay Express Facebook ) The publisher of a weekly newspaper in the San Francisco Bay Area reportedly stepped down Saturday after removing three blog posts using a racial slur in front of staff members when criticizing an article. Stephen Buel, 59, publisher of the Oakland-based East Bay Express, made the disparaging comment during a staff meeting, and at least two Express employees quit the paper in protest, the East Bay Times reported. He reportedly was referring to an article by former associate editor Azucena Rasilla that examined the use of the same racial slur by white people, according to the Daily Californian, the student-run newspaper of the University of California at Berkeley. (AP) — The United States Naval Academy says it has dismissed a white midshipman for using a racial slur for African-Americans in online communications with other midshipmen.Jeff McFadden, an attorney for Midshipman 4th Class Ted Colter, tells The Capital the plebe was expelled Feb. 26 for unsatisfactory conduct and plans to appeal on grounds that the language is common to a "generation of street-tough teenagers" from Colter's home in the New York City borough of Queens.Academy spokesman Cmdr. David McKinney says the incident is the first in recent memory of a midshipman being dismissed for using a racial slur.McFadden provided a memo from academy Superintendent Vice Adm. A video of the former student using the n-word multiple times went viral on Martin Luther King Day this past Monday, prompting a protest on UA's campus that was organized on Wednesday, CBS Birmingham affiliate WIAT reports.University President Stuart R.
