ATLANTA — A Georgia lawmaker is seen using racial slurs and dropping his pants in an episode of Sasha Baron Cohen's Showtime series Who Is America?. In Sunday night's broadcast , Republican Rep. Jason Spencer of Woodbine repeatedly uses a racial slur for African Americans and later exposes his bottom after being told it helps scare away Muslim terrorists. Spencer lost in the May primary but his term doesn't end until his replacement takes over after the November election. But The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Georgia House Speaker David Ralston has called for Spencer to resign. "Representative Spencer has disgraced himself and should resign immediately," Ralson said. "Georgia is better than this." The newspaper reports Spencer had earlier threatened legal action to prevent the network from airing footage of him. In a statement Monday, Spencer apologized for the "ridiculously ugly episode" but he refused to step down from office. Hannah Sparling and Carol Motsinger Cincinnati Enquirer Published 11:11 p.m. UTC Jun 11, 2018 On Tuesday, people in Anderson Township will be mad – all because a school committee is supposed to make a recommendation. The branding committee will say that Anderson High School should drop its Redskins mascot, and those in favor of the name will be mad. Or, the committee will recommend keeping the name, and the other side will be mad. The school just east of Cincinnati is ground zero for the debate over whether it’s OK to use Native American mascots and logos. It’s a nationwide battle, but Ohio – a state where such mascots abound – is right at the center. To those in favor of dropping the mascots, particularly at schools using Redskins, the argument is simple. It’s offensive. “Redskin” is a racial slur. People aren’t mascots. CLEVELAND, Ohio - Ohio teachers unions don't automatically report teachers that give students bloody noses or use racial slurs, officials of three local unions say on hidden-camera videotape released Tuesday. The videos from Project Veritas, a controversial right-leaning group that aims to catch people saying politically-compromising things on video, also show union officials talking about how they often defend teachers that behave badly toward students. The group says the undercover videos of officials of the Akron, Cleveland Heights and Dayton teachers unions seem to show "a culture that seems to say, 'protect teachers no matter what, even if students are getting hurt.'" Teachers unions say the videos were "doctored," noting that there are multiple cuts in the videos that make it hard to tell exactly what questions the local officials are responding to. They also stress that while teachers unions are required by law to report incidents of child abuse, they were never given … [Read more...] about Unions hesitate to report teachers shoving students, using racial slurs, edited ‘undercover’ videos suggest
