SAN FRANCISCO (AP/CBS13) — A new California data warehouse system unveiled Wednesday should help policymakers better understand and address the issue of homelessness in a state that has the most unhoused people in the country, officials said. This is the first time the information has been collected at a state level, according to the state’s homeless coordinating and financing council. The announcement comes two months after a state audit that criticized California for an approach so fragmented and incomplete as to possibly hinder efforts to get people into stable housing. Nevada City School District Completes Massive Tree Clearing Project In Effort To Protect Students From Wildfire Danger
NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) – As wildfires get larger and deadlier, one local school district is on the frontlines clearing danger away from classrooms. In Nevada County, the place where kids go to learn is also surrounded by some of the most dangerous fire risks in the state. With the WNBA draft on Thursday, Michaela Onyenwere has set herself up to be the first Colorado player to be a first-round pick. But it took the Aurora native and Grandview alum two eurekas to see her true potential. Once she did, the UCLA star realized what everyone around her already knew — Onyenwere hasn’t even touched her basketball ceiling. “I honestly didn’t even understand I was good enough to go to college on a basketball scholarship until I was like a junior in high school,” Onyenwere said. “That was a pretty late realization, and then it was a similar realization after my sophomore year at UCLA in terms of going pro — like okay, I can make this work, I can do this. By: KDKA-TV News Staff PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A woman who has given back to others her entire life is being thanked for all she’s done. Rosemarie Druga celebrated her 95th birthday in February. Her birthday wish: new bedding and a new battery for her scooter. Well, her dreams recently came true. UPMC’s living at home program partnered with the Twilight Wish Foundation to grant Rosemarie’s wishes. “It’s beautiful, I just hope it’s the right size and everything. It’s pretty. Newton Police Warn Residents After 5 Home Break-Ins On Friday
NEWTON (CBS) – Newton residents are being advised by police to lock their doors and windows at home, and their cars after five homes were broken into Friday night. Four of the five homes were unoccupied at the time of the break-ins. Newton Police say the break-ins took place from 7:45 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. on Friday.
