Saturday September 29, 2018 09:36 PM Nevada Press Association-Major Winners List Written by The Associated Press LAS VEGAS (AP) — A list of top awards in the 2018 Nevada Press Association "Better Newspaper Contest" announced Saturday at the association's annual convention in Las Vegas: General Excellence: First Place: Urban Daily_Las Vegas Review-Journal. Judges' comments: "The Review-Journal is the clear winner and obviously the 'heavyweight' in this category. It's obvious this paper has a much larger editorial staff, and it shows with a nice variety of local news, features and sports coverage. I especially liked the 'Commitment to Vegas' supplement in the April 2, 2017, issue. Great range of local stories and topics, and I loved the Raiders timeline in the double-truck. The Sunday issues you clearly give your readers their $3 worth. The Columbia Missourian, including Vox Magazine, won 64 awards Saturday in the Missouri Press Association’s 2018 Better Newspaper Contest.The Missourian competed in the division of newspapers with circulations from 5,001 to 15,000 and won awards for written stories, photos, ongoing coverage, multimedia, graphics, design and projects published in 2017.The awards were announced Saturday during the Missouri Press Association convention in St. Louis. The Missourian also won the gold cup award given to the news organizations with the most awards in its division.Multi-Media Reporting: Missourian staff won first place for galleries and visuals of the solar eclipse, including time lapse videos of the solar eclipse reaching totality over the MU’s Frances and Carnahan quadrangles.Best Local Business Coverage: Missourian staff won first place for quality coverage of business news and features in this three-issue entry. The Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, the Press and Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton and the Ithaca Journal have been named newspapers of distinction by the New York State Associated Press Association. Winners of the organization's contest were announced on Saturday. Twenty-eight newspapers submitted more than 658 entries and 46 radio and television stations submitted more than 524 entries.
