Virginia and New Jersey will each be casting ballots for governor, while Maine votes on expanding Medicaid. In Virginia, Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam is running against Republican Ed Gillespie to succeed Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who limited to a single term.In New Jersey, the race is between Democrat Phil Murphy, a Goldman Sachs alum who was U.S. Ambassador to Germany from 2009 to 2013, and Republican Lt. Instagram reported that its users tagged about 250,000 Election Day photos. Instagram is a popular mobile photo-sharing app that is available on Apple iOS and Google Android phones. According to the company's blog post, 100,000 photos were tagged with the hashtag #IVoted and 150,000 were tagged with #election2012. It's worth noting that users can upload photos to Instgram without a hashtag, so the number of photos on Election Day may be higher. You likely know who you’re voting for in the presidential race, but do you know where your Election Day polling place is? Google, Twitter and Facebook have all rolled out services designed to help voters with everything from finding their polling station to following election results as they start rolling in on Tuesday. Uber, meanwhile, is prompting riders to get to the polls. Zipcar is offering free rentals in some places. Even President Barack Obama has been involved, reminding people to vote in an in-app Spotify message. “Millions of Americans are voting,” the president intones in a short clip that directs listeners to Headcount.org for voter information. “You should be one of them.” It’s all part of a push to get Americans out to vote in what has been one of the ugliest and most bitterly fought campaigns in recent memory.
