Denver prosecutors charged a 14-year-old boy with first-degree murder Monday, alleging he was the gunman who fired multiple shots into an SUV on West Colfax Avenue last month, striking the driver in the head at least once and killing her. The Denver District Attorney’s Office also charged 18-year-old Neshan Johnson — accused of driving the car the suspected shooter emerged from — with first-degree murder in the Feb. 20 shooting of Pamela Cabriales, 32. Prosecutors did not identify the 14-year-old because he’s a juvenile, though they’ve filed a motion seeking to transfer his case to adult court. According to a probable cause statement , Cabriales was sitting in her 2008 Land Rover SUV on West Colfax at Interstate 25 around 10:45 p.m. when, a witness told police, a suspect standing next to the passenger side of a dark four-door Honda fired a gun six times into the Range Rover before driving away. Cabriales suffered at least one gunshot to the head and was rushed to Denver … [Read more...] about 14-year-old boy charged with murder in shooting of woman in her SUV on Denver’s West Colfax Avenue

Reward upped for info on teenage couple killed on Valentine’s Day 21 years ago
On Valentine’s Day 21 years ago, two teenagers were shot and killed inside a Littleton Subway, and the killer was never caught. Metro Denver Crime Stoppers is now offering a $100,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the cold case slayings of 15-year-old Nicholas Kunselman and his girlfriend, 16-year-old Stephanie Hart-Grizzell . The teenagers were killed on Feb. 14, 2000, as Nicholas finished his shift at Subway and as Stephanie waited for him to finish up. Their bodies were found behind the counter just before 1 a.m., when an employee drove past the restaurant, noticed the lights were on and went to investigate. After the killing, Stephanie’s mother, Kelly Grizzell, claimed that the owner of the Subway shop allowed drug dealing to go on in the back of the shop, and suggested that may have led to the double homicide. Authorities mounted an extensive investigation — the killing of the two Columbine High School students came less than a year after the … [Read more...] about Reward upped for info on teenage couple killed on Valentine’s Day 21 years ago
Darcy Olsen: The Monster You Know
Posing for a White House Christmas photo, the young Senate staffer in his navy-blue suit looks to be the picture of a conventional D.C. politico. Except for one thing: the young man gets his kicks watching men rape infants. “Babies are some of my biggest turn-ons,” he wrote, according to court documents. “Young rape…I love all that.” In case you missed the story, D.C. Metropolitan police arrested 27-year-old Ruben Verastigui in February on federal child porn charges. The Republican operative stands accused of trading and receiving videos of infant rape and inviting others to join him in Washington to sexually assault kids. I should have told you to brace yourself. But to be honest, I’m tired of soft shoeing around this grotesque violence. We should be shouting it from the rooftops. Pedophilia is a national epidemic. And we should leave no stone unturned in a national, nonpartisan campaign to bring its child victims justice. Like everyone reading this, I’d heard about … [Read more...] about Darcy Olsen: The Monster You Know
Witness in Pueblo murder trial killed in Denver, but police don’t see connection
A witness in a Pueblo murder trial was killed in Denver last week, 10th Judicial District Attorney Jeff Chostner said Wednesday, but police do not believe her death is connected to her status as a witness. Roxann Martinez, 31, was shot and killed near East Kenyon Drive and South Wabash Street around 11 p.m. Thursday, according to Denver police and the medical examiner’s office. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner on Tuesday ruled Martinez’s death a homicide. Martinez was a witness who could have testified in the ongoing murder trial of Donthe Lucas, a 28-year-old man charged with killing his pregnant girlfriend, Kelsie Schelling, 21. Schelling disappeared in February 2013 and her body has not been found. “We are aware of (Martinez’s) connection to that trial, but we don’t believe at this time that her death is related,” Denver police spokeswoman Christine Downs said Wednesday. She declined to elaborate. Metro Denver Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for … [Read more...] about Witness in Pueblo murder trial killed in Denver, but police don’t see connection

The suspected assailant, a man in his twenties, was shot, arrested and is being treated in a hospital, police said. A press conference was expected later Thursday on the attack. The other victims of Wednesday’s assault in the small town of Vetlanda, 190 kilometres (118 miles) south-east of Gothenburg (Göteborg), Sweden’s second-largest city, include two seriously injured people, two with moderate injuries, and one who is slightly injured, the Jonkoping region said in a statement late Wednesday. The attack took place in the afternoon and police say there are five crime scenes in Vetlanda, a town of 13,000. The man’s motive was not immediately known. Police said the man, who they would not identify in line with Swedish policy, is known to them for petty crimes. … [Read more...] about Press Identify Suspected Terrorist Axe Attacker as Afghan Migrant, Three in ‘Life-Threatening’ Condition
