If you want to get a gander as to where our narcissistic, snowflake culture is at these days, actress Kelly Marie Tran just scored a full-blown Hollywood Reporter cover story for — get this — “surviving” mean tweets. You remember Kelly Marie Tran, the poor woman stuck with that awful Rose Tico role in 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rose Tico is not Tran’s fault. She didn’t create that dreadful, humorless, self-righteous character. Nor is it her fault that director Rian Johnson thought it would be appealing to have her spend the entire movie walking around with a smug face — a face that would be deemed “punchable” on a man. Nevertheless, the unfair world being what it is, she was still hit with some of the blowback, and now we’re being asked to celebrate her fearlessness for “surviving” mean tweets. ATLANTA (AP) — A shooting on Interstate 85 in suburban Atlanta has claimed the life of a rising Texas rap artist, one of three interstate shootings in the metro area in two days, authorities said Saturday. Rapper Corey Detiege, who performed under the stage name Chucky Trill, died at an area hospital after Friday’s predawn shooting, police in suburban Gwinnett County said. Police Cpl. Collin Flynn, a department spokesman, said someone pulled up beside Detiege’s car and opened fire around 3 a.m. Friday, WSB TV reported. Ditiege, 33, was from Sugar Land, Texas. Flynn said the suspect fled and a motive in the slaying was unknown. Police gave no immediate description of the suspect’s vehicle and have made no arrest. On Saturday, a man was grazed by a bullet on I-285 in DeKalb County when another driver pulled alongside him and opened fire, DeKalb police spokeswoman Officer Elise Wells said. An official from ousted de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party has died in police custody, a party official confirmed to VOA’s Burmese service, as security forces continue to crack down on anti-coup protests in Myanmar. NLD member Khin Maung Latt was arrested during overnight raids in Yangon Saturday and died while in detention, party lawmaker Sithu Maung said. A cause of death was not released. Tun Kyi, spokesperson of the Association Assistance for Political Prisoners, Burma told VOA Burmese that he accompanied the bereaved family to claim Khin Maung Latt’s body and witnessed blood on his head, his fingers blackened, and wounds on his back. Overnight raids conducted by police have targeted leaders of the NLD. Police have not commented on the matter. Meanwhile, thousands of anti-coup protesters returned to the streets of Myanmar Sunday.
