Democrats in the House Rules Committee on Friday voted against an amendment by Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) that would prevent any American taxpayer-funded COVID-19 relief dollars from going to the Chinese Communist Party. His amendment would have barred any of the $1.9 trillion in COVID-19 relief bill funds from being made available to “any enterprise, agency, instrumentality owned by the Government of the People’s Republic of China or the Chinese Communist Party.” Barr said when he introduced his amendment to the Democrat-controlled committee: The coronavirus, as you know, started in China. It was made worse by the Chinese Communist Party suppressing information about the spread of the virus and in no way should the CCP be able to further benefit from weaponizing the global supply chain and receiving the U.S. taxpayer funds. “My amendment ensures that none of the funding in this bill, and particularly none of the $10 billion dollars in the international affairs funding, goes to … [Read more...] about Democrats Block Rep. Pinkerton: Tom Cotton Drafts ‘Beat China’ Plan to Win the ‘Economic Long War’ and Secure America
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) has released an 80-page report , “Beat China: Targeted Decoupling and the Economic Long War,” which, along with other key documents, could serve as a guide for Americans as they think about how to compete with China. Cotton’s report envisions a Cold War against China—that is, a patient economic, strategic, and ideological struggle to beat China without firing a shot—not an actual hot war. After all, we won the Cold War against the Soviet Union after five decades; today, the Arkansas lawmaker believes, we can do it again in Cold War 2. Yet to sustain this new new cold war, Cotton notes, we need structural change here at home: Current U.S. federal government organization is not optimized to thwart China’s whole-of-society approach to the economic long war. This has led to serious gaps in the performance of U.S. institutions, which today punch well below their weight, even given the positive reforms and initiatives of the past few years. Jim Banks: GOP Destined to Lose if They Erase Trump, Lose Connection with Working-Class Voters
Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), said at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Saturday that the Republican Party is destined to lose future elections if they erase former President Donald Trump and the connection he made with working-class voters. Banks said at a panel with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and American Conservative Union (ACU) chairman Matt Schlapp that a recent poll found McCarthy is the most popular Republican in the House. However, the Hoosier conservative noted that the least popular Republicans want to remove Trump and his connection with the GOP’s working class. “There are very few Republicans; the least popular are those that want to erase Donald Trump and Donald Trump supporters from our party. Let me tell you, if that happens, we will not win back the majority in 2022; we definitely won’t win back the White House in 2024 if you erase Donald Trump,” Banks told the CPAC crowd. The New Foreign Flavor of CPAC’s Red Meat

Photo: Joe Raedle/Getty Images The group that puts on the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is called the American Conservative Union, but the first two days of speeches at this year’s CPAC in Orlando suggest the right wing activists who attend the annual conclave have embraced a foreign political ideology. It’s not that the event wasn’t patriotic. Each day began with the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem and countless speakers professed their love of country. Instead, it marked the further transition of the American right away from its libertarian roots to a more European model of populist politics. Government no longer was the enemy, but instead a tool to combat threats like big tech and “cancel culture.” This political shift was most notable in what was not mentioned on stage. While the House of Representatives was passing a $1.9 trillion COVID bill that would, if enacted, be the … [Read more...] about The New Foreign Flavor of CPAC’s Red Meat
