Democrats Cited Debunked ‘Fire Extinguisher’ Claim in Trump Impeachment Trial

The false claim that Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was killed by being struck by rioters with a fire extinguisher was debunked Monday by the District of Columbia medical examiner — but not before Democrats cited it in the impeachment trial. As Breitbart News’ John Nolte noted , Sicknick was found to have died from natural causes, after he suffered two strokes on the day after the Capitol riot. He was not killed by a fire extinguisher, nor by chemicals in pepper spray or any other weapon. However, Democrats’ House impeachment managers cited the fire extinguisher claim in their trial brief when they urged the Senate to convict former President Donald Trump — even though he had already left office. The impeachment brief claimed (footnotes omitted): After the insurrection, one participant who broke into the Capitol wearing combat gear and carrying zip ties [sic] stated that he acted because “[t]he President asked for his supporters to be there to attend, and I felt … [Read more...] about Democrats Cited Debunked ‘Fire Extinguisher’ Claim in Trump Impeachment Trial

Groups see new openings for digging up dirt on Trump

Public interest groups determined to stay focused on the Trump administration say they have new openings for unearthing information now that the past government’s political appointees have departed. Various groups that flooded the government with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests say the departures have greased the wheels of various agencies’ public records shops. Requests ranging from the pandemic response and the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol are moving forward, potentially aiding activists eager to bring new dirt to light. ADVERTISEMENT “I think there's a ton left to understand about what went wrong during the Trump administration and what norms were broken, what ethical violations occurred, and I do think we’ve only scratched the tip of the iceberg,” said Lisa Gilbert with Public Citizen, who organizes the Not Above the Law coalition of more than 100 different interest groups. And representatives of whistleblowers who spoke out against the Trump administration … [Read more...] about Groups see new openings for digging up dirt on Trump

Senate GOP faces post-Trump spending brawl

Republicans are bracing for a fierce fight over spending as the party tries to figure out its post-Trump identity. GOP senators this week will wade into two major sources of division in the conference: whether to nix an earmark ban, one of the few remaining vestiges of the Tea Party years, and whether to adopt a caucus rule that endorses offsetting any increase in the debt ceiling with spending cuts. The looming standoff comes after Republicans embraced big budgets under former President Trump Donald Trump House votes to condemn Chinese government over Hong Kong Former Vice President Walter Mondale dies at age 93 White House readies for Chauvin verdict MORE , who signaled support for getting rid of the debt ceiling and urged GOP lawmakers to go bigger in the final round of coronavirus relief passed while he was in office. Trump Says Georgia Election Law Is ‘Far Too Weak’

Trump rambles all over the place for the benefit of Sean Hannity. Photo: Fox News The word on the street in Georgia is that the state’s notorious new election law is helping Governor Brian Kemp regain some of the support that he lost in MAGA land by failing to back Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in the Peach State. But don’t mention it to Trump himself, who told Sean Hannity the new law is namby-pamby when it comes to voter suppression. During a Monday-night appearance on Fox News, Trump called the bill “far too weak,” and mocked “the governor and others” for their fear of being “called racist.” Trump wasn’t very specific, but a couple of weeks ago he issued a statement that made it clear that his view of access to the ballot box is radical: (The crossed-out words are the name of a poll worker Trump and his allies have maligned; Montellaro didn’t want to contribute to the smear.) The former president seems to be confused about signature … [Read more...] about Trump Says Georgia Election Law Is ‘Far Too Weak’

Former Trump Official: Florida Big Tech Bill Needs Common Carriage or Public Accommodation Provision to Succeed

Law professor, former Trump official, and communications law expert Adam Candeub joined Alex Marlow on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily today, arguing that Republican voters need to pressure their state legislators if they want local bills to rein in Big Tech to succeed. Candeub, who worked on President Trump’s efforts to regulate Big Tech (the former President left office before they could be implemented), and who fought free speech cases against Twitter, said that states must categorize social media companies as common carriers or places of public accommodation if they want to stop censorship. Breitbart · Adam Candeub – April 20, 2021 “DeSantis definitely deserves all the kudos in the world — he outlined and planned a really aggressive take on Big Tech that really warms the heart of not just conservatives, but everyone across the country who’s really concerned by the role that these companies are playing in our politics.” “As a general matter, state legislators can’t … [Read more...] about Former Trump Official: Florida Big Tech Bill Needs Common Carriage or Public Accommodation Provision to Succeed
