Defense lawyers have a saying: “If the law is against you, pound on the facts; if the facts are against you, pound on the table.” For military defense lawyers, there is a slight modification: “Before you pound on the table, pound on the chain of command.” Why? Because in the military, leaders are accountable for the failures of their subordinates and military juries are the harshest critics of their colleagues whose leadership failures contribute to misconduct. Indeed, the Vanessa Guillen disappearance at Fort Hood, Texas, and its subsequent fallout, is a prime and recent example of how failures at low levels of the military result in accountability at high levels. DENVER (CBS4) — Police and state troopers stopped a suspected police impersonator in the middle of Interstate 25 in Denver during the morning commute on Monday. Investigators say the 39-year-old man was driving a white 2009 Ford Crown Victoria equipped with police lights, a push bumper and a dash cam. He was wearing tactical gear. (credit: CBS) The Aurora Police Department confirmed the man is not an employee but a volunteer. His volunteer application was accepted last year. It is unclear whether he actually participated in the APD volunteer program because of COVID-19 restrictions. Police: Mom Arrested After 10-Year-Old’s Body Found in Car Trunk
Police arrested a Louisville, Kentucky, mother after authorities found the body of her ten-year-old son in the trunk of her car, authorities said. Officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department responded to a home in the Taylor Berry neighborhood around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, WDRB reported . Police were conducting a welfare check after someone reported seeing a woman with a gun on the home’s porch and a deceased boy wrapped in a blanket. Once officers arrived, they discovered blood on the porch steps, the arrest report noted. Police investigated the home a little further and opened up the trunk of a car belonging to one of the home’s residents, Kaitlyn Higgins, 28. Inside the trunk, they found the body of a ten-year-old boy who sustained a fatal gunshot wound around 9:30 p.m., the Louisville Courier-Journal reported .
