PITTSBURGH -- Baltimore Ravens tight end Hayden Hurst returned to practice this week for the first time since undergoing foot surgery in late August, but he'll have to wait to make his NFL regular-season debut. Hurst, the first-round rookie, entered the weekend as questionable and wound up on the inactives list for the Ravens' Sunday night game against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Tight ends Nick Boyle, Mark Andrews and Maxx Williams will continue to man the position in Hurst's place. Mike Wilson Knoxville News Sentinel Published 6:48 p.m. UTC Sep 2, 2018 Josh Dobbs is still a Pittsburgh Steeler after a stout final preseason showing. Dobbs had an impressive outing in Pittsburgh's final preseason game Thursday, which likely cemented his roster spot. He completed 8 of 12 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown, while leading the Pittsburgh offense to three scores in four drives. Dobbs was a sixth-round pick by the Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft and spent last season as the third-string quarterback. The Steelers also picked a quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft, picking Rudolph in the third round out of Oklahoma State. “Just another … [Read more...] about Former Vol Josh Dobbs makes Steelers roster as backup quarterback

Both sides sat key players and turned it over to younger players who were either getting their first taste of NFL action or fighting for a roster spot. Others didn't. Here are eight who impressed or who might be distressed after the preseason opener. Impressed: RB Josh Adams The undrafted free agent was productive during his career at Notre Dame, and he showed how Thursday night. The Steelers haven't gotten to this part of their offseason. But with two organized team activities (OTAs) practices and three minicamp sessions separating them from the summer, we do have some idea of which personnel problems got addressed in the first half of this calendar year, and which remain areas of concern as the regular season nears.
