BEL AIR, MD — The Bel Air hhgregg store will soon be closing, company officials announced Thursday. The store in Tollgate Marketplace will likely close by mid April, according to a statement from hhgregg. It is one of 88 locations nationwide and 11 in Maryland marked as underperforming by the company, which sells electronics, furniture and appliances. "After scrutinizing our real estate portfolio, we have identified a number of underperforming stores, as well as store locations that are no longer strong shopping destinations due to changes in the local retail shopping landscape," hhgregg President/CEO Robert J. Riesbeck said in a statement. Other Maryland hhgregg stores slated for closure are in Annapolis, Catonsville, Frederick, Glen Burnie, Hagerstown, Hanover, Largo, Rockville, Towson and Waldorf. BALTIMORE, MD — Starbucks, the ubiquitous coffee chain, announced late Tuesday it plans to close an estimated 150 locations by the end of 2019. While the company has not yet said which locations will close, a notice to investors said the closures will affect "underperforming company-operated stores in its most densely penetrated markets" in urban areas. Baltimore and Washington, D.C., could be among those "densely penetrated markets." As of October 2017, Maryland was home to 257 Starbucks locations — or one for every 23,615 people, according to a study. Washington, D.C., has 91 Starbucks sites, or one shop for every 7,659 people; and Virginia has 432 Starbucks locations, one for every 19,660 residents. Starbucks on Tuesday said the anticipated 150 store closings is up from a historical average of 50 closings per year. The company expects same-store sales to grow just 1 percent in the next quarter. (CBSLA)- Thanks to a two game winning streak, the Los Angeles Rams are still within striking distance of a playoff spot heading into Week 15. The runners-up for last year’s Super Bowl, the Rams trail the Minnesota Vikings for the final Wild Card spot in the NFC. They likely need to win all three of their final games, along with getting help from others in order to make the playoffs. The first step in that plan is beating the Dallas Cowboys this weekend, on the road, at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys are in peril of missing the playoffs themselves due to their three game losing skid. With a record of 6-7, their season essentially comes down to next week’s matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. If the Cowboys win that game, they win the NFC East. If they lose, they’re likely to miss the postseason assuming the Eagles beat the Redskins and Giants. It is that contrast in stakes for this weekend’s game that has CBS Dallas sports anchor Keith Russell believing that … [Read more...] about CBS Dallas’ Keith Russell: Rams ‘Roll Into AT&T Stadium, Dust Off The Cowboys’ This Weekend
TORONTO (AP) — One huge quarter from 3-point range helped the Toronto Raptors halt a rare home losing streak. Pascal Siakam scored 30 points, Marc Gasol set season highs with 17 points and 15 rebounds and the Raptors beat the Brooklyn Nets 110-102 on Saturday night to snap a three-game slump on their home court. “Our overall feel-good was there tonight,” Toronto guard Kyle Lowry said. Norman Powell fouled out with 25 points and Lowry had 17 to help the Raptors win their ninth straight home game against the Nets and beat Brooklyn for the 16th time in 17 meetings. “I really think tonight’s game was fueled by the defense we had,” Powell said. Serge Ibaka had 12 points and 12 rebounds as Toronto extended an NBA record by winning its 34th straight at home against a division foe. The Raptors are unbeaten at home against Atlantic Division opponents since a Nov. 10, 2015, loss to the New York Knicks. The Raptors made nine of 12 attempts from 3-point range in … [Read more...] about Despite Brooklyn’s Best Rebounding Effort, Raptors Beat Nets 110-102
close Video Trump attends Army-Navy football game for the 3rd time President Trump and Defense Secretary Mark Esper visit the Army-Navy locker rooms to deliver words of encouragement before the 120th Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia. Every December, when Army takes on Navy in one of college football’s best-loved traditions, many supporters of the Air Force team get a little annoyed. That’s because each year on Army-Navy Saturday, someone is bound to make a remark like, “The Army-Navy Game is the only game where everyone playing is willing to die for everyone watching.” Air Force fans like to point out that the team from the Colorado-based school also competes each year for the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy – which the Falcons have won 20 times compared to 16 times for navy and eight times for Army.
