Members of the Sikh community gathered with Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett (D) Saturday and called for more gun control in the wake of the FedEx attack. The Associated Press reports Sikh Coalition’s Aasees Kaur said, ““We must support one another, not just in grief, but in calling our policymakers and elected officials to make meaningful change. The time to act is not later, but now. We are far too many tragedies, too late, in doing so.” Kiran Deol said, “We need more reform. We need gun laws to be harder, stronger, so that responsible people are the ones that have guns. That’s what we want to bring awareness to.” Members of the Sikh community gather and listen during a vigil at Monument Circle in Indianapolis, Indiana. Before the pandemic hit, few people had ever used the video conferencing platform Zoom. Fast forward to 2021 and it’s a household name for anyone who has tried to work, learn, or host a virtual event. The company saw its net income jump from roughly $25 million to $672 million in the last year, but one thing remains unchanged on the company’s latest financial report : current federal tax expense held steady at $0. Cue the angry tweets from politicians like Sen. Bernie Sanders Bernie Sanders GOP believes Democrats handing them winning 2022 campaign Senators in the dark on parliamentarian's decision World passes 3 million coronavirus deaths MORE (I-Vt.), complaining that this is yet another indication of a “rigged tax code” that “benefits the wealthy & powerful.” While Sanders is correct that many aspects of the U.S. tax system do favor the wealthy, this is not one of them. Companies like Zoom and Amazon are the wrong targets for a very simple reason … [Read more...] about Don’t attack Zoom for its $0 federal tax bill

(CNN) Tom Stoppard's play, "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead," begins with the two minor characters from "Hamlet" betting on the toss of a coin. It comes up heads ... and heads ... and heads -- 92 times in a row -- and Guildenstern has to keep handing over his money. "I'm afraid it isn't your day," says Rosencrantz. "Life is a gamble, at terrible odds," says another character near the end of the 1966 play , "if it was a bet you wouldn't take it." This week President Joe Biden continued taking some hard bets, hoping the coins will land his way. He set the pattern in January, days before he took office, by outlining a huge Covid relief package amounting to $1.9 trillion and then topped it last month with a proposal for a $2 trillion infrastructure bill. On Wednesday he made another … [Read more...] about Joe Biden’s audacious gambles
With President Joe Biden securely in office and the 2024 presidential election 43 months away, the mainstream press has determined it an acceptable time to expose the frequent fibber’s most flagrant falsehoods. This week saw a plethora of so-called “fact-checkers” take issue with the blatantly false statements Biden made while announcing his “initial actions” on gun control on April 8. In touting H.R. 8, which would criminalize the private transfer of firearms, Biden stated, These bills, one, require background checks for anyone purchasing a gun at a gun show or an online sale. Most people don ’t know: If you walk into a store and you buy a gun, you have a background check. But you go to a gun show, you can buy whatever you want and no background check. This decades-old gun show talking point is a lie. There is no “gun show loophole” or “online sales loophole.” Federal law requires all firearm dealers to be licensed and to initiate a National Instant Criminal … [Read more...] about Biden’s Anti-Gun Lies Are Too Much Even For Legacy Press Fact Checkers
This is a wrap of several top stories from China for 19 April 2021. Hong Kong (CNN) Under President Xi Jinping, China's former leaders have grown accustomed to keeping their heads down. But in an essay published this week, ostensibly a tribute to his late mother, former Premier Wen Jiabao appeared to issue what many have interpreted as a coded criticism of Xi: calling for fairness, justice, humanity and liberty, all while remembering a period of history the Communist Party would rather forget. Wen's words took Chinese social media by the storm. His essay was shared hundreds of thousands of times -- before censors stepped in to stop people spreading it (yes, even the country's second-highest official for a decade could not escape China's increasingly stringent censorship). The essay was published in an obscure newspaper in Macao , perhaps indicating no mainland Chinese outlet was willing to publish it. Wen could not be reached for comment about … [Read more...] about Did China’s former Premier just subtly criticize President Xi Jinping?
