Inflation rears its head amid spending debate
Economists are closely watching inflation data as prices begin to rise at their fastest pace in almost a decade. The Consumer Price Index for March, released Tuesday , jumped a higher-than-expected 0.6 percent from February, the biggest monthly increase since 2012. Prices were up 2.6 percent compared with March of 2020. Economists broadly agree that some degree of inflation is to be expected in the next few months as the economy recovers from the worst recession since the Great Depression. ADVERTISEMENT "We don't see runaway inflation as an imminent risk,” said S&P Global U.S. chief economist Beth Ann Bovino. “Actual inflation is nowhere near what markets are pricing in, and even with a near-term price lift, it won't be enough to signal runaway inflation.” But Republicans are warning that President Biden Joe Biden Trump: McConnell 'helpless' to stop Biden from packing court Biden, first lady send 'warmest greetings' to Muslims for Ramadan … [Read more...] about Inflation rears its head amid spending debate
Kiszla: Why Trey Lance is the quarterback the Broncos should trade up for in the NFL draft
While it’s bad enough the Broncos have failed to make the NFL playoffs during the past five years, that’s not the worst of it. This is not just a bad football team. The Broncos are boring. In a sports town now ruled by Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Avs center Nathan MacKinnon, both legit MVP candidates leading legit championship contenders, go ahead and tell me the player that excites Broncos Country. Linebacker Von Miller? That’s so 2016. He’s over the hill and broken. Drew Lock? As a quarterback just good enough to get the Broncos beat, a major chunk of the fan base is already tired of his act. Justin Simmons? He’s a wonderful player and better human, but nothing about the soft-spoken safety shouts compelling. So while draftniks gorge at the cliché buffet, drooling over pro day measurables and guys with high motors, might I humbly suggest what the Broncos need as much as a three-down linebacker or reliable right tackle is more cowbell? New general manager George Paton … [Read more...] about Kiszla: Why Trey Lance is the quarterback the Broncos should trade up for in the NFL draft

Gov. Henry McMaster Bans South Carolina from Housing Unaccompanied Migrant Minors
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) has issued an executive order directing South Carolina’s Department of Social Services (DSS) to block the U.S. government from placing unaccompanied migrant children from the U.S.-Mexico border in his state’s group or foster homes. The Post and Courier reports: In a letter dated April 8 , DSS Director Michael Leach informed Governor McMaster of the federal government’s preliminary inquiries to transport an unknown number of unaccompanied migrant children from the southern border and place them in South Carolina foster care and group homes licensed by DSS. Fearing the ultimate displacement of South Carolina’s most vulnerable children in an already-strained system, Governor McMaster responded to Director Leach: “South Carolina’s children must always be given first priority for placement into foster care and the State’s strained resources must be directed to addressing the needs of its children. Allowing the federal government to … [Read more...] about Gov. Henry McMaster Bans South Carolina from Housing Unaccompanied Migrant Minors
