Many locals who usually leave Union Square to the tourists still maintain an annual tradition of heading to the neighborhood during the holidays. It’s not just for shopping, but also to check out the Macy’s holiday window displays with their cute napping puppies and kittens from the SPCA, to take selfies in front of the massive Christmas tree in the square and to maybe even squeeze in a bit of ice skating.
