To them, greeting the public is an integral part of returning balance in their lives after losing limbs in combat. With the help of Patriots Honor, an organization whose motto is “Giving Back to Those Who Gave,” such veterans as Hotaling and Keeslar have become part of a brother and sisterhood who help folks get back to the same passions, hobbies and interests they had before their injuries. Orem residents seek city council cooperation, report on Palos Verdes petition
Members of the Southwest Orem Neighborhood Association came to the Orem City Council’s work session Tuesday to give a report on findings during the 45-day petition gathering process on the Palos Verdes zoning referendum.David Busath, SWONA spokesman, lead the discussion and gave a report on what other petition gatherers found as they spoke to residents throughout the city.The information came from 13 of the more than 55 petition carriers.It should be clearly noted that while some members of SWONA were the original petitioners that first registered for the petitions as LetOremVote, the two groups are separate and in some cases at odds with their goals for the future of the city.“We do not represent LetOremVote nor do we have any negotiating authority,” Busath said. “We are messengers.”The message Busath was bringing to the council in a nutshell was that the majority of residents who signed the petition do not like high density multi-unit housing complexes … [Read more...] about Orem residents seek city council cooperation, report on Palos Verdes petition
Palo Verde athletic trainer honored for dedication to student-athletes
What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”Last week’s recipient: Bart Peterson.Nominated by: Stephanie Bernstrom.Why: Peterson is an athletic trainer at Palo Verde High Magnet School. He ensures that all Palo Verde athletes are prepared and ready to play with safety as his main goal. He travels with teams to ensure athletes are cared for during sports events. He checks up on students during off hours with calls to their parents, doctors and staff members to make sure they are OK, Bernstrom wrote in her nomination letter. Palo Verde students are also learning life lessons by examples from Peterson. He teaches them to be kind, polite and respectful. Orem’s Palos Verdes petitioners garners 9,200 signatures
If numbers are any indication, Orem residents will be voting on a zone change that, if approved, would give PEG Developments and Woodbury Corp. the green light to build Palos Verdes apartments — a multi-building complex for students at the doorstep of Utah Valley University.For the past month and a half, a group of residents have been knocking on doors, setting up display tables and inviting Orem’s registered voters to sign a petition seeking to have a referendum on the Nov. 5, 2019, ballot on the issue.On Friday, the Utah County Elections Office had received 9,200 signatures, according to Bryan Thompson, the county clerk.
