China Is Watching: TikTok’s In-App Browser Can Monitor Keystrokes, Capture Sensitive Info
A software researcher recently claimed that China-owned TikTok’s in-app browser is capable of monitoring and recording user keystrokes, which the company has since confirmed. Of course, the Chinese company is quick to state that the code in its app is only used for “debugging,” but this may be another lie from the company known for its mistruths. Forbes reports that TikTok has confirmed that it has the ability to monitor the activity of users when browsing the web via the platform’s in-app browser. TikTok can monitor the keystrokes that users type and what they click on a web page inside the in-app browser, meaning TikTok could capture a user’s credit card information or passwords. EXCLUSIVE: Republican Governors To Release Video Slamming Dems For Being Soft On Crime
The Republican Governors Association (RGA) will launch a video Thursday highlighting Republican governors’ efforts to combat rises in crime across the U.S. and support law enforcement as Democrats have been supporting soft-on-crime policies. The video , first obtained by the Daily Caller, is the third in a series titled Red State Recovery. This video focuses specifically on crime and features Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves, and Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds. The Republican Governors hammer Democrats in the video for wanting to defund the police and mention the spike in crime in cities run by Democrats. The other two videos in the RGA’s Red State Recovery series were focused on education and the economy . An analysis released in June showed six major U.S. cities are on track to surpass historic crime records reached in 2021. Violent crimes hit record highs in 2021 in Atlanta, Baltimore, Los Angeles, New … [Read more...] about EXCLUSIVE: Republican Governors To Release Video Slamming Dems For Being Soft On Crime
$1M Anonymous Donation To Keep Church’s Doors Open
1 Community Corner The gift means St. Lawrence Episcopal Church will not have to sell its downtown Libertyville church to help pay off debt. Amie Schaenzer , Patch Staff Posted Reply LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A $1 million gift from an anonymous donor will mean St. Lawrence Episcopal Church in Libertyville will be able to continue to preach in its 100-year-old building instead of selling it. The church at 125 W. Church St., across the street from Cook Park, fell on hard times after adding an addition onto the church in the early 2000s. The church, which has about 80 households in its congregation, put the building up for sale in 2018 to pay off its debt, according to the Daily Herald. After receiving the $1 million donation from a member who chose to stay anonymous, the church was taken the church off the market on April 30. "With the financial freedom this opens up , we are finally able to invest in the ministries that … [Read more...] about $1M Anonymous Donation To Keep Church’s Doors Open
7 Days of Le Corbusier and Calder in Provence
Photo-Illustration: The Strategist. Photos: Delphine Del Val Everyone knows that person who spends weeks sniffing around travel blogs, going deep into Tripadvisor rabbit holes, collecting Google docs from friends of friends, and creating A Beautiful Mind– style spreadsheets to come up with the best vacations and itineraries possible. In this recurring series, we find those people who’ve done all the work for you and have them walk us through a particularly wonderful, especially well-thought-out vacation they took that you can actually steal. When Delphine Del Val’s father retired and moved from Paris to Provence, the talent agent and founder of Pool Creatives started visiting his home near Aix-en-Provence every summer, at first for one week, then two weeks, then when COVID arrived for a month at a time. “I love the climate,” she says. “It’s warm but dry — the nature is gorgeous.” Del Val last traveled to Provence from New York this spring, and flew back with her … [Read more...] about 7 Days of Le Corbusier and Calder in Provence
Why UK energy prices are rising much faster than in Europe
London (CNN Business) Millions of people in the United Kingdom are steeling themselves for colossal rises to their energy bills over the next few months, a coda to a year already marked by record price increases. The crisis is not unique to the country. Prices have shot up across Europe since last fall, driven by a spike in demand as countries lifted pandemic lockdowns. Russia's invasion of Ukraine in late February, and the subsequent drop in Moscow's oil and natural gas exports to Europe , have pushed prices even higher. But UK energy prices are now higher than in comparable economies like France and Italy, analysts told CNN Business. And Brits have suffered much bigger price increases than in most European countries, including Germany, where decades of energy policy has been turned on its head by the Ukraine war. The Office for National Statistics said this week that UK natural gas prices rose nearly 96% in the year to July, while electricity … [Read more...] about Why UK energy prices are rising much faster than in Europe
‘House Of The Dragon’ Plays A Less-Addictive Game
(CNN) — HBO has followed the majesty of “Game of Thrones” with what might be called “games of throne” in “House of the Dragon,” a series whose epic visual grandeur belies a smaller and less addictive power struggle, more narrowly focused on the Targaryen line. It’s not bad, and there are dragons aplenty, but it doesn’t produce the sort of characters that defined and elevated its predecessor to prestige-TV royalty. Working from author George R.R. Martin’s prequel “Fire & Blood,” the new series has the disadvantage of being set almost two centuries before the key events in “Game of Thrones,” taking place 172 years prior to the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. That ratchets up the pressure to sink or swim — or rather, soar or sputter — strictly on its own terms. READ MORE: Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Investigating Incident At Lennard High School The current occupant of the Iron Throne, King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), is somewhat feckless as monarchs go, so much … [Read more...] about ‘House Of The Dragon’ Plays A Less-Addictive Game
