House Republicans are planning to whip the vote against the “Inflation Reduction” Act with zero GOP defections — to force the Democrats to “own” the massive spending bill. Republicans are working to make sure all of their members are in Washington, DC to cast their vote on the bill in person, and intend to pressure Democrats to do the same — to go on record with their position in person, a senior House Republican staffer told Breitbart News. “We’re going to make sure that we have everybody in town voting, so that if these Democrats want to vote to raise taxes, during a recession, they’ll have to go on record to do it,” the staffer told Breitbart. The GOP is also looking to highlight the more egregious items in the massive spending bill, using it as a cudgel against Democrats. “I think the big fight is just going to be making them own the bill. I think this bill is going to be their own worst enemy. When you look at doubling the size of the IRS, tripling the size of the EPA, … [Read more...] about Zero House Republicans to Vote for ‘Inflation Reduction’ Act

Jury Can’t Reach Verdict In Engineers’ Flint Water Trial
DETROIT (AP) — A judge declared a mistrial Thursday after jurors said they couldn’t reach a verdict in a dispute over whether two engineering firms should bear some responsibility for Flint’s lead-contaminated water. Veolia North America and Lockwood, Andrews & Newman, known as LAN, were accused of not doing enough to get Flint to treat the highly corrosive water or to urge a return to a regional water supplier. READ MORE: 5 Year-Old Injured In Eastpointe Accidental Shooting; Gun Safety Instructor Says Lock Up Your Guns A mistrial was declared in federal court in Ann Arbor, Michigan, said Tarrah Cooper Wright, a spokeswoman for Veolia. After hearing months of evidence, the jury began deliberations on July 25 but also took a planned 11-day break before returning Tuesday. Flint’s water became contaminated in 2014-15 because water pulled from the Flint River wasn’t treated to reduce the corrosive effect on lead pipes. Atlanta rapper Young Thug faces 6 new felony charges in gang indictment
ATLANTA — Atlanta rapper Young Thug , who’s accused of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, or RICO, Act and participation in a criminal street gang, is facing six new felony charges along with four others linked to the case. A new indictment was filed in Fulton County Superior Court last week against the artist, whose real name is Jeffery Williams. He now faces additional charges of participation in criminal street gang activity, violation of the Georgia controlled substances act, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a machine gun and drug charges, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Francisco Lindor is one of the best players in the league again
As many continue fretting about Francisco Lindor’s batting average — which is also trending upward — the Mets’ indefatigable shortstop has shown up to the ballpark every single day and reclaimed his spot as one of the best all-around players in baseball. Lindor finally gets a break on Thursday, as a Mets’ off day is the only thing that can keep him off the field. Playing virtually without any rest, something that manager Buck Showalter is very fond of reminding people about, Lindor has posted the fourth-most Wins Above Replacement of any position player in the league. With offensive production that’s 32% better than the average player, clockwork defense at the diamond’s most important position and sneaky good base running, Lindor ranks behind the Cardinals’ corner infield duo of Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt for the crown of most valuable player in the league. It will almost certainly not lead to the actual award for Most Valuable Player, but Lindor deserves much more MVP … [Read more...] about Francisco Lindor is one of the best players in the league again
Charlottesville car attacker pleads for mercy in sentencing memo
(CNN) The man who drove into a crowd of counterprotesters in Charlottesville's "Unite the Right" rally two years ago has pleaded for mercy and asked for a sentence less than life imprisonment in his federal hate crimes case . In a sentencing memorandum filed in federal court Friday, James A. Fields Jr. said the court should not give him a life sentence because of his young age, history of mental illness and childhood trauma, and to show that no one is defined by their worst moments. "James did not come to Charlottesville with any plan to commit an act of violence. In the space of only a few minutes, caught in circumstances he did not intend to create, he acted in an aggressive and impulsive manner consistent with his mental health history and his age," the memo reads. "In a matter of seconds he caused irreparable harm for which there is no excuse. But this Court can understand his actions, without excusing them, as symptomatic of transient immaturity, and not consider them to … [Read more...] about Charlottesville car attacker pleads for mercy in sentencing memo
He’s a top-ranked basketball prodigy. But should an 8-year-old be ranked at all?
King Tari Johnson is a 4-foot-8, 91½-pound 8-year-old from Stockton whose mother packs his Looney Tunes lunchbox with ham, salami and cheese sandwiches she cuts into his favorite shapes: stars, footballs and, of course, basketballs. He’s also the future of the NBA. At least, that’s what a couple of websites that track this sort of thing want you to believe. King Tari, with his smooth ballhandling, advanced footwork and deep shooting range, is considered one of the nation’s best third-grade basketball players. If all goes as planned, he could be a household name in, oh, about a decade. As for the near term? King Tari just wants a growth spurt. Of all the potential pitfalls on his path to the NBA, genes might prove his undoing: His father stands 5-10, and his mom is 5-2. “I’m hoping he grows to be at least 6 feet,” said Tari Johnson, King Tari’s dad and personal trainer. “That would definitely help his chances of getting to the league.” King Tari, a giggly, soft-spoken boy who … [Read more...] about He’s a top-ranked basketball prodigy. SCOTUS Hearing Could Put Kamala Center Stage in 2020 Brawl
The last confirmation hearings for a Supreme Court nominee were a launching pad for Sen. Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. Two years later, the looming confirmation battle for the nation’s highest court could help propel her into the White House. In a year when the word “unprecedented” has been rendered basically meaningless, the California senator’s dual role as both a vice presidential nominee and one of the most prominent members of the Senate Judiciary Committee is a historical first. Progressives are hoping that Harris’ aggressive cross-examination of Brett Kavanaugh during the explosive 2018 hearings investigating allegations of sexual misconduct are a preview of a similar performance in the coming weeks as the panel considers President Donald Trump’s potential third justice on the Supreme Court—this time, under an even brighter spotlight. “There’s really only two political events that capture the attention of the whole country: Supreme Court hearings, and presidential … [Read more...] about SCOTUS Hearing Could Put Kamala Center Stage in 2020 Brawl
