CHICAGO (CBS) — Six weeks into 2021, Chicago has already seen more than 220 carjackings – compared with just over 70 at this time last year. It’s clear this crisis isn’t going away, and it needs a solution as big as the problem itself . Two suspects who allegedly rammed police vehicles in Arvada were arrested Wednesday in an incident involving two stolen vehicles. One suspect, a man, was naked from the waist down when he was taken into custody. Two suspects arrested. Two stolen vehicles, along with two firearms recovered. No injuries to suspects or community members. The Chevy SUV was spotted near Ridge Road and Independence Street and officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver rammed a police SUV and fled. A man was driving the stolen vehicle and there was a female passenger, Snelling said. The stolen SUV was tracked by OnStar, through GPS capability, and officers again spotted the vehicle at West 68th Avenue and Carr Street. CHICAGO (CBS) — An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a 53-year-old man earlier this week in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, and the carjacking of a 36-year-old woman last week in Ukrainian Village. Police said Taevon Abston was arrested shortly after midnight Wednesday on the 100 block of North Laramie Avenue, after officers spotted him getting into a vehicle that was stolen in a carjacking on Feb. 4 .
