If you’re a Nuggets player, a word of advice: This is a darn good time not to Google yourself. No stretch in the NBA calendar brings out the smoke the way Trade Deadline Week does. The trick for the young faces on Denver’s roster, at least for another day or two, is to not let that smoke get in your eyes. Or let the flurry of online rumors that ping on your phones, or the phones of loved ones, get in your heads. “I’m here to play basketball,” Nuggets guard PJ Dozier said of Thursday’s 1 p.m. trade deadline after dropping 14 points on Orlando in a 110-99 win. “That’s my job. That’s what I’m going to continue to do. “I’m going to continue to be where my feet are. So if I’m here, that’s where my mind is, that’s where my focus is, that’s where my love is. So I try not to worry about that too much.” Things could get interesting. Or the deadline could come and go without a major hiccup. Will the Nuggets look to add a defender who can guard athletic wings? Or a rim protector? Or … [Read more...] about Aaron Gordon? Harrison Barnes? Kelsey Berreth murder case: Mistress Krystal Lee Kenney takes stand in Patrick Frazee murder trial
More than a decade after meeting Patrick Frazee at a Teller County dance and falling in love with him, Krystal Lee Kenney sketched for a jury a complicated and dramatic relationship that led her to clean a bloody crime scene after her lover allegedly bludgeoned his fiancée to death. Kenney is the prosecution’s key witness, who for six hours Wednesday testified against the Florissant rancher accused of killing Kelsey Berreth. Frazee convinced Kenney that Berreth was abusing the daughter they had together, and it was Kenney’s job to stop it even though she had no relationship with the child, the Idaho nurse testified. “He went from being someone who I loved and cared for and is one of my best friends,” she said, pausing in her speech. “And he said his little girl was being abused. I know it was wrong, but I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t make the right decisions.” She described a manipulative and demanding man who pulled her away from her marriage with the hope of a family … [Read more...] about Kelsey Berreth murder case: Mistress Krystal Lee Kenney takes stand in Patrick Frazee murder trial
James Holmes guilty of murder in Aurora theater shooting
CENTENNIAL — James Holmes is guilty of murder for killing 12 people in an Aurora movie theater three years ago, a jury decided Thursday, ending the legal limbo for one of the worst mass shootings in American history. In count after emphatic count, jurors rejected the defense’s argument that what happened at the Century Aurora 16 theater on July 20, 2012, was a tragic act of insanity. It was a deliberate crime, jurors said. Holmes now faces possible execution as punishment. The jury of nine women and three men found Holmes guilty of 24 counts of first-degree murder — two for each victim slain — as well as 134 counts of first-degree attempted murder, six counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of explosives possession. In the wood-paneled courtroom before the verdict was read, tension pulled the spectators taut. Parents who lost their children in the attack held hands with clenched grips. Holmes’ parents leaned stiffly against one another, a box of tissues … [Read more...] about James Holmes guilty of murder in Aurora theater shooting

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) sent a letter Wednesday to the Justice Department and intelligence community asking that documents be handed over to Congress on any information tying Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, to Chinese government-connected foreign nationals he did business with. The top Republicans’ letter was sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines asking for any documents which contain details on Hunter Biden’s financial ties to several Chinese business people. “As you know, we have been reviewing financial transactions and connections between and among members of the Biden family and foreign nationals connected to the communist Chinese government, including its military and intelligence services,” the Republicans wrote. “Hunter Biden had a close and personal relationship with Ye Jianming, who reportedly had links to the communist regime’s People’s Liberation Army.” Text messages … [Read more...] about Grassley and Johnson Send Letter Seeking Access to FISA Documents on Hunter Biden’s Chinese Business Associates
