MOSCOW - Two gay men seized near Moscow and sent back to their native Chechnya, a region accused of brutal persecution against homosexuality, face "mortal danger," a rights group said Saturday. The LGBT Network rights group helped the two Chechen men, Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isayev, flee Muslim-majority Chechnya for Nizhny Novgorod east of Moscow in June last year after they were reportedly tortured by Chechen special police. The two men were detained for unknown reasons in Nizhny Novgorod on Thursday and have been sent back to the North Caucasus region, the group said in a statement. LGBT Network spokesman Tim Bestsvet said the men were detained by the Federal Security Service (FSB) domestic intelligence agency and had arrived at a police station in Chechen town of Gudermes on Saturday. Five More Arrested over Death Threats to Islam-Critical Teen
French police have arrested five people aged 18 to 29 regarding death threats sent to a French teen who criticised Islam on social media last November. The five individuals were taken into custody on Tuesday in relation to an investigation into the very large number of death threats received by teenager ‘Mila’ after criticising Islam in a video on TikTok. According to a report from broadcaster France Bleu, the arrests took place in several areas of France including Loire-Atlantique, Moselle, Calvados, Marne, and Hauts-de-Seine. Those arrested will likely face charges of death threats and cyber-harassment. The November video was the latest released by the French teen since her video in January of 2020 led to a torrent of abuse and threats online. Islamic State has confirmed the death of notorious British terrorist known as “Jihadi John” in the latest issue of the organisation’s magazine Dabiq. The Islamic State names “Jihadi John’ as Abu Muharib Al-Muhajir and describes him as originally from the Arabian peninsula with a mother from Yemen. It also goes on to say that Muharib – who went by the name Mohammad Emwazi during his time in the United Kingdom – and his family moved to London when he was young. Mr. Emwazi’s journey to becoming “Jihadi John” began in 2005 according to the article, after the 7/7 bombings occurred on the London transport system. “He would busy his days with jihad related work,” the magazine says, noting that he did so alongside two other jihadists who were later killed in U.S. drone strikes in Somalia. A Muslim teenager shot dead an Ahmadi homeopathic doctor at his clinic in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar on Thursday, a local police official confirmed to Dawn . “A police spokesperson identified the slain man as Abdul Qadir who was shot dead by an accused identified as Ihsanullah, 18,” the Pakistani newspaper reported on February 12, adding that “locals overpowered Ihsanullah at the scene and handed him over to the police.” The victim, Abdul Qadir, 65, was an adherent of the Ahmadi faith, an official of Peshawar’s Inquilab police station told Dawn .
