The college hockey conference that many in Minnesota love to hate will have three teams in the NCAA Frozen Four at Xcel Energy Center. Ohio State and Michigan won regional championships on Sunday, joining fellow Big Ten Conference member Notre Dame, which earned its spot Saturday, in the national semifinals on April 5. The team left to fend off the Big Ten trio will be Minnesota Duluth, which advanced Saturday night by beating Air Force in the West Regional final in Sioux Falls. The semifinals of an all-West Frozen Four will feature Michigan facing Notre Dame, and Minnesota Duluth meeting Ohio State. The semifinal winners will meet April 7 for the championship, and if the Bulldogs don’t beat the Buckeyes, the final will be an all-Big Ten affair. The Big Ten, in its fifth season as a hockey conference, has been less than popular in Minnesota because the league was formed by taking the Gophers and Wisconsin out the old WCHA, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State out of the … [Read more...] about Big Ten trio Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame headed to Frozen Four
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – There will be no glorious repeat. There will be no ninth national championship. Not this year. Denver, which went four straight postseason games – all wins – without allowing multiple goals, gave up a pair to Ohio State in the second period and three more in the third during Sunday night’s NCAA Division I Midwest Region final at the PPL Center. Thus, the second-seeded Pioneers suffered a disappointing season-ending 5-1 defeat to the No. 1 Buckeyes. Ohio State’s Dakota Joshua registered his 15th goal this season off an assist from Brendon Kearney with 16:13 left in the second period and Buckeyes senior Kevin Miller took a sharp pass from behind the net and slapped his shot past DU goalie Tanner Jaillet with 4:29 remaining in the period. That was enough offense for Ohio State, though the Buckeyes poured it on in the third period. Miller scored his second of the contest and Max Joyaux and Mason Jobst both contributed goals over the final 20 … [Read more...] about Denver Pioneers hockey season ends in blowout loss to Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio woman is urgently asking whoever broke into her Columbus home to return an urn containing the ashes of her stillborn daughter. WSYX-TV reports Iesha Harvey says she doesn't care whether any of the other items stolen from her home Monday are returned. She says the baby's ashes are the most important thing to her and the "only thing I have left." Harvey lost the baby because of complications in 2013. Photos of the urn stored on her computer were recently lost in an accidental file dump. Columbus police say the lack of fingerprints, witnesses or surveillance camera footage means it's unlikely the theft will be solved. … [Read more...] about Woman begs for return of baby’s ashes stolen from Ohio home
Chicago just had its official visit from the Amazon HQ2 scouts. Developers and city workers did some "sprucing up" in advance of visits last Tuesday and Wednesday. The Chicago Tribune said it was no ordinary spring cleaning. Crews blasted away graffiti and cleaned vacant lots near sites that Chicago pitched to Amazon to be its second headquarters future home. Developers also put up large architectural renderings of their projects. The Tribune also reported that only five of the 10 proposed sites were visited. It sounds like Amazon is narrowing down its selections on paper in advance of boots on the ground. There's only so much time left in its self-imposed 2018 deadline. The Ohio State University student newspaper, The Lantern, took credit Friday for putting Columbus in the running for HQ2. The paper quoted Amazon spokesman Adam Sedo saying Ohio State's ability to provide a talented workforce was "a key driver" for landing on the list of 20 cities being considered for … [Read more...] about This week in Amazon-o-mania: Chicago visit, check.
