Millions of Texans are grappling with boil water notices and other water-related issues Tuesday as the state is still reeling from last week’s deadly blast of wintry weather. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality at one point Monday estimated that 8.7 million residents were under notices to boil their water before consumption – but that figure has fallen as of Tuesday as major cities such as San Antonio and Austin began lifting their warnings. "As of 6 a.m. CT Tuesday, more than 1,300 public water systems have reported disruptions in service due to the weather, many of them leading to Boil Water Notices," Gary Rasp, a spokesperson for the agency, told Fox News. X the X-Waiver: How Congress can facilitate treatment for opioid abuse
Next month will mark a full calendar year since the lives of millions of Americans were turned upside down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, even as the coronavirus continues to ravage communities across the country, another public health crisis is still devastating American families: our nation’s fatal addiction to opioids. In 2019, nearly 50,000 Americans lost their lives to an opioid overdose — a 136 percent increase just since 2010. There’s alarming new evidence that overdose rates have jumped even further since the March 2020 COVID-19 emergency declaration. Turkey Questions Employees of Saudi Consulate on Khashoggi
ANKARA - Turkish prosecutors investigating the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi questioned Turkish employees of the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Friday, widening the hunt for clues in a case straining Riyadh's alliance with Western powers. Khashoggi went missing more than two weeks ago after entering the consulate to obtain documents in relation to a forthcoming marriage. Turkish officials believe he was killed in the building on October 2, but Riyadh has denied the allegations. In an expanding quest for evidence, police searched a forest on Istanbul's outskirts and a city near the Sea of Marmara for Khashoggi's remains, two senior Turkish officials told Reuters, after tracking the routes of cars that left the Saudi consulate and the consul's residence on the day he vanished. Investigators have recovered samples from searches of both buildings which it will analyze for traces of Khashoggi's DNA. State-run Anadolu news agency said the Turkish prosecutor's … [Read more...] about Turkey Questions Employees of Saudi Consulate on Khashoggi
Friednash: As America’s duopoly circles the drain, prominent Coloradans jump their parties’ ships
A recent Gallup poll placed Americans’ interest in a third major political party at an all-time high: 62% of Americans say the parties do a poor job representing the American people and a third party is needed. Only 33% believe they are doing an adequate job of representing the people. The fact that 42% of active Colorado voters register as unaffiliated is a clear rejection of the two-party system. Merely five years ago, Colorado party registration gave Democrats 32%, Republicans 33% and unaffiliated voters 35%. Today, Democrats have 30% and Republicans 27%. Unaffiliated voters have increased by a stunning 570,653 total voters. To understand this dynamic, look no further than former Denver City Councilman Albus Brooks, a Democrat, and state Rep. Norma Anderson, a Republican, who both recently switched their party affiliation. Albus Brooks, a lifelong Democrat, moved to Colorado in 1997 to attend and play football at the University of Colorado where he was once named one of the … [Read more...] about Friednash: As America’s duopoly circles the drain, prominent Coloradans jump their parties’ ships
