President Joe Biden will sign two more executive orders on Monday to mark International Women’s Day with a focus on “gender equality.” The president will sign an order to establish a “Gender Policy Council” in the White House to help focus on gender issues such as sexual harassment, equal pay for other genders, ways to combat “gender-based violence,” and “gender equality” issues across the world. In 2019, former President Barack Obama created a White House Council on Women and Girls during his administration to focus on women’s issues. But Biden’s policy council will focus on all issues of gender, not just women’s issues. “This is a matter of human rights, justice, and fairness,” the White House announced Monday. The Biden administration said the council would aggressively work on “intersecting forms of discrimination” including “LGBTQI+” people. From the fact sheet release : The White House Gender Policy Council will be an essential part of the Biden-Harris … [Read more...] about Joe Biden Marks International Women’s Day with White House Council on Gender Policy

12 states sue Biden over ‘social cost’ calculation of greenhouse gases
Twelve states are suing the Biden administration for trying to establish a "social cost" of greenhouse gases to use in agency rulemaking. In a lawsuit filed on Monday, the states argued that a January executive order directing officials to figure out the “social cost of greenhouse gases” was an overreach, exercising a “quintessentially legislative power.” “Setting the ‘social cost’ of greenhouse gases is an inherently speculative, policy-laden, and indeterminate task, which involves attempting to predict such unknowable contingencies as future human migrations, international conflicts, and global catastrophes for hundreds of years into the future. Assigning such values is a quintessentially legislative action that falls within Congress’s exclusive authority,” said the suit, which was filed in federal court in Missouri. WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden is set to sign an executive order on Monday directing the Department of Education to review policies implemented by Donald Trump’s administration, including changes to Title IX regulations that prohibit sex discrimination in federally funded institutions, according to administration officials. Biden focused on gender equity during his campaign and promised to strengthen Title IX if he won the White House. He also will sign a second executive order formally establishing the White House Gender Policy Council, according to two administration officials who briefed reporters on the plan.
