Sugar dating via sites like Seeking Arrangement is talked about more openly and honestly than ever, with some daters growing a following by sharing their experiences on YouTube and social media. For the unfamiliar, typically in these situations, successful sugar daddies or sugar mamas pay for dates (and often sex) with younger women or men known as sugar babies. Caitlin has always managed to get by with just a debit card so she has been throwing all this credit card junk mail away. I told her, however, that she should obtain a credit card to help her establish a credit history. Credit card laws have been toughened for college students in an effort to cut down on marketing abuses on college campuses. Consequently, there are probably a lot of students like my daughter who are graduating without any plastic. Recently Pope Francis weighed in on usury — the lending of money at exorbitant interest rates. “Usury humiliates and kills”, the Pope said to a group founded to oppose its practice. It is, he added, “an ancient and unfortunately still concealed evil that, like a snake, strangles its victims.” Victims of usury are often the working poor and elderly on fixed incomes who when faced with a financial emergency seek a short-term loan. Some fall prey to “loan sharks” who lend at exorbitant interest rates and use blackmail or threats of violence to collect on their debts.
