Nuggets rookie R.J. Hampton is expected to enter the NBA’s health and safety protocols, a league source told The Denver Post on Sunday. Hampton is expected to be in the protocol through the All-Star break, the source said. The Nuggets have three games remaining — at Chicago on Monday, at Milwaukee on Tuesday, at Indiana on Thursday — before the break. Wrecked by injuries, Hampton played a valuable role when he began getting regular rotation minutes at the start of February. Over his last 10 games, he’s averaged five points and four rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game. On Saturday, the Nuggets got back combo guard PJ Dozier, who’d missed 15 consecutive games with a hamstring injury. Heading into Monday’s game against Chicago, Gary Harris remains out with an adductor strain. Policies Report an Error Contact Us Submit a News Tip … [Read more...] about Nuggets rookie R.J. Spurs Snap Knicks’ 3-Game Winning Streak
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — San Antonio has discovered its depth amid the injuries and health problems that have plagued the team all season. Trey Lyles scored a season-high 18 points, Dejounte Murray added 17 and the Spurs used a balanced effort to beat New York 119-83 on Tuesday night, ending the Knicks ’ three-game winning streak. Nikola Jokic earns Tim Duncan comparison after saving Nuggets: “He’s a good guy to look up (to)”
Before Nikola Jokic was a superstar bound for his inaugural All-Star game start, and long before he was throwing down poster dunks in crunch time against the Chicago Bulls, the unheralded Serbian big man watched videos of legendary forward Tim Duncan. “I looked a little bit at his videos, how he’s playing the game,” Jokic revealed after obliterating Chicago’s frontcourt for 17 points in the fourth quarter and rescuing a Nuggets win Monday night. “I can just imagine him in his prime,” Jokic said after coach Michael Malone raised the comparison in his postgame news conference. “I think he knew it in every moment what he’s going to do on the floor, how he can manipulate the defender or whatever. He’s a good guy to look up for.” Jokic still remembers fondly when the two crossed paths late in the 2015-’16 season. Back then, Jokic was a rookie and Duncan was two weeks shy of his 40th birthday, playing out the last few weeks of his storied career. “I always said, he gave me the … [Read more...] about Nikola Jokic earns Tim Duncan comparison after saving Nuggets: “He’s a good guy to look up (to)”
Nuggets’ Facundo Campazzo, Markus Howard likely out due to contact tracing, source says
Facundo Campazzo and Markus Howard have both been added to the Nuggets’ injury report as part of the NBA’s contact tracing, a league source told The Denver Post. As such, both are likely out through the All-Star break. Campazzo is doubtful for Monday’s game vs. Chicago and Howard was ruled out earlier due to the league’s health and safety protocols and according to the team’s injury report. Nuggets rookie R.J. Hampton entered the NBA’s health and safety protocol on Sunday. The Nuggets can appeal the decision on Campazzo, though it’s highly unlikely he’ll play against the Bulls. Hampton and Howard are both expected to be out through the All-Star break. Campazzo will be too unless cleared by the results of his contact tracing. The Nuggets will be without Gary Harris (adductor), Paul Millsap (knee) and JaMychal Green (shoulder) against the Bulls due to prior injuries.
