A survey of nearly 500 leaders at colleges and universities reflects other reports that found American higher education is facing challenges on many fronts. School officials were asked to name the biggest issues their institutions would face in the next three to five years and how they would deal with them. The study was a joint effort with the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Huron Consulting Group, and was released in October. The study identified the top six issues that the 500 leaders listed. The most common concern? Increasing competition with other educational institutions. About 62% of those questioned noted that concern. The next most common issue? The increase in non-traditional students, meaning students who fall outside the typical 18 and 24 years olds who enter school each year. (CNN)A California woman paid over $9,000 to have a person affiliated with Rick Singer's college counseling business take online classes for her son so he could graduate Georgetown University, according to the Department of Justice. Karen Littlefair, 57, of Newport Beach, will plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud as part of a plea deal announced Monday, according to court documents. Prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of four months in prison, one year of supervised release, a fine of $9,500 and an order to pay restitution. Ken Julian, Littlefair's lawyer, told CNN "My client has taken the earliest opportunity to take responsibility for her conduct." New reports claim that college admissions scam mastermind William “Rick” Singer told white students to lie about their race on their college applications.According to a report from the New York Post, college admissions scandal mastermind William “Rick” Singer encouraged white clients to lie about their child’s race on their college applications. According to Singer, not doing so would put their children at a “competitive disadvantage” to other students. The source that provided this information claimed that Singer had one student apply to colleges as a Native American. However, the student had no Native American ancestry. “There was nothing Native American about this kid,” the source said. Boston College’s A.J. Dillon To Skip Senior Season And Bowl Game, Declare For NFL Draft
BOSTON (CBS) — The collegiate career for running back A.J. Dillon is over. It’s on the NFL. Dillon will not play in BC’s bowl game this year, and he will skip his senior season in order to enter the 2020 NFL Draft. Dillon made the announcement in a statement released by the school. BC is scheduled to play in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl on Jan. 2. Dillon set a career high with 1,685 rushing yards this season, and he tied a career high with 14 touchdowns.
