Associated Press Published 12:34 AM EST Nov 30, 2018 Arlington, Texas — Dak Prescott desperately scrambled for a first down in a game of fourth-quarter keepaway, then took three knees starting from the New Orleans 1 to run out the clock by the narrowest possible margin. Anything to keep Drew Brees and the NFL’s highest-scoring offense on the sideline. Ezekiel Elliott scored the only Dallas touchdown on a 16-yard screen pass and the Cowboys stifled Brees and the Saints, ending New Orleans’ 10-game winning streak with a 13-10 victory Thursday night. The Cowboys (7-5) won their fourth consecutive game and assured they will at least remain tied for the NFC East lead. The Saints (10-2) were shut out in the first half, had their fewest points in four years and finished with a season-low 176 yards. They missed a chance to perfectly match Dallas from two years ago, when then-rookie sensations Elliott and Prescott won 11 straight after dropping the opener. … [Read more...] about Thursday’s NFL: Cowboys end Saints’ 10-game winning streak

How the NY Jets can start first winning streak in a year
Andy Vasquez NFL writer Published 3:21 PM EDT Oct 9, 2018 The Jets have led a double life through their first five games. They’ve been an incredible force in two blowout wins over the Lions and Broncos. But in between, they sandwiched a three-game losing streak in which they seemed to do everything wrong. The Jets believe they are the good team they showed they can be in Weeks 1 and 5. But no one else is going to believe until they start doing it consistently. “We’ve got to grow up,” offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum said. “It’s a maturity game for us. It’s great to get a win, but at the same time we’ve got to keep things in perspective.” The Jets talked repeatedly about maintaining perspective after their 48-17 Week 1 win over the Lions. Then they immediately played a stinker of a game against the Dolphins, losing 20-12, and followed that up with awful performances in Cleveland and Jacksonville. … [Read more...] about How the NY Jets can start first winning streak in a year
Stock Watch: Bob Condotta’s take on how the Seahawks fared in a 33-31 defeat to the Rams
It’s the first weekend in October, and a Seahawks team that has been a perennial Super Bowl front runner since 2012, is now left hoping vainly for a wild card spot. A 33-31 loss to the Rams on Sunday makes it difficult to see the Seahawks making a legit run at the NFC West — Los Angeles is 5-0 and rolling, while Seattle is 2-3 and still finding itself, plus Seattle still has to play the Rams on the road in November. The good news is the NFC appears a pretty heavy crap shoot — consider that the Bears would be the number two seed if the season ended today. And Seattle can also find some encouragement in how it played Sunday, rushing for 190 yards and using its play-action game to set up the kind of big plays it was missing earlier in the season. (Jack Dempsey/AP) NEW YORK — The NFL’s competition committee plans to make a proposal to team owners later this month to change the rules on kickoffs, in a bid to keep the play in the game rather than eliminate it over injury concerns. The committee’s proposal is to be completed by Monday and includes recommendations delivered by special teams coaches leaguewide during a meeting Wednesday at the NFL’s offices in Manhattan. The changes, if ratified by the … [Read more...] about The NFL is going to change its kickoff rules to try to keep the play in the game
Mizzou offense shows glimpses of firepower in spring game
COLUMBIA, MO. • Drew Lock might have expended more energy signing countless autographs on Faurot Field than he did during the actual Black and Gold Game on Saturday. By design, the public debut of Mizzou’s offense under new coordinator Derek Dooley didn’t reveal too many surprises and featured only a cameo from its biggest star, but Lock walked away from the spring finale knowing the Tigers’ season will be measured in the fall, not April.“It’s fun. It’s a cool event,” Lock said on a chilly but sunny afternoon. “But it’s more of a production than something you look back and evaluate and say, ‘We’re going to be really good or really bad’ based on the spring game.”With Dooley calling plays from the press box, third-year coach Barry Odom overseeing from the field and SEC Network broadcasting the 100-play scrimmage, the Tigers didn’t show off any exotic formations or alignments on either side of … [Read more...] about Mizzou offense shows glimpses of firepower in spring game
