Dave Gettleman is active trading draft picks when he has a regular bounty. What will the Giants general manager do with a boatload of picks? Stay tuned. The Giants are up to nine draft picks for the 2019 NFL Draft and likely are not done acquiring more draft capital before Monday's NFL trade deadline. Defensive starters Damon Harrison and Eli Apple were shipped out and Janoris Jenkins reportedly is drawing interest around the NFL. This should be Giants' plan to complete a tear-down Gettleman did not make any draft day trades in 2018, though he tried to move up into the end of the second round to take linebacker Lorenzo Carter. He ended up getting Carter near the top of the third round, anyway. Gettleman beforehand acquired an extra third-rounder in exchange for veteran Jason Pierre-Paul from the Buccaneers. Pierre-Paul has six sacks for the Buccaneers, but rookie B.J. Hill looks promising as the eventual return piece. He also sent two 2018 draft picks to the Rams for … [Read more...] about NFL Draft 2019: How many picks do Giants have after Eli Apple, Damon Harrison trades?
Nfl draft rounds how many
Every year leading up to the NFL draft, we’re treated with so many mock drafts from national experts such as the NFL Network’s Mike Mayock and ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay that they have to number them so readers won’t get confused. I’m not here to knock mock drafts – like everyone else, I scan them in the weeks preceding the NFL draft to see where it looks like the consensus for certain picks is going. And Mayock’s annual position-by-position breakdown of the draft for the Inquirer and Daily News, which includes his thoughts on the best player at each position as well as the top riser and sleeper, is always on my must-read list. But this year’s first round was truly chaotic, with surprise picks and trades keeping all the television analysts on their does (did anyone think the Cleveland Browns would select Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward with the No. 4 pick?) So I thought it might be worthwhile to … [Read more...] about NFL draft 2018: How many picks did Mel Kiper, Mike Mayock and Todd McShay actually get right?
Fourth in a five-part NFL Draft preview series. They have to be prepared for every NFL Draft scenario, Philadelphia Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman reiterated last week.So as much as he might be looking to trade down and out of the last pick in the first round, he will be watching the board for certain players to see if they still have a realistic chance to get real value at No. 32 overall.Though it’s unknown if the Eagles truly believe Boise State’s Leighton Vander Esch fits that criteria, his skill set and accomplishments suggest that he would be a great fit for defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz’s system. One thing that is known is that it is highly unlikely Mychal Kendricks and his $7.6 million salary cap hit are in their 2018 plans. So despite adding his probable replacement in Corey Nelson and another free-agent linebacker in Paul Worrilow, they almost certainly will continue to add to that position this weekend. The team also … [Read more...] about A look at some linebackers in NFL Draft and how they fit with Eagles

And there seem to be a few quarterback-desperate teams looking to get from outside the top 10 into the top five picks. NJ Advance Media asked three longtime NFL executives to act as Giants general manager and answer these questions: How low would you be willing to trade? Do you have to stay in the top six or seven picks to get a premium player, or would you be willing to go as low as No. 12 or into the No. 20s? What kind of return would you require in terms of draft picks in 2018 or the future? Here are the resumes for Louis Riddick, Phil Savage and Gil Brandt, followed by their answers: Riddick is an ESPN analyst … [Read more...] about NFL Draft 2018: How low can Giants trade down? FLEMINGTON -- The Giants have made revamping the linebacker position a priority this offseason, and could find a complement to veteran acquisition Alec Ogletree in Hunterdon Central Regional product and Penn State's Jason Cabinda. Cabinda, projected by many as a Day 3 selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, recently took part in the Giants' local Pro Day. After his workout, Cabinda made a point to get some extra face time with the defensive coaching staff before leaving East Rutherford. "I thought it went pretty good," Cabinda told NJ Advance Media on Saturday, when asked about the Pro Day workout. "It was basically a Pro Day type of workout. I was able to eat lunch with a couple of coaches after the workout, and talk some ball. I think it went really well." Giants 7-Round Mock: Darnold, Barkley, or Chubb? At 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds, Cabinda averaged 89 tackles over three seasons as a starting linebacker at Penn State, while registering 17 tackles … [Read more...] about NFL Draft 2018: How Flemington native, Penn State LB Jason Cabinda says he fits Giants’ defense
