Health officials said the total number of confirmed cases in the state is now 559,083 while the total number of deaths is 16,085. NEW YORK (AP) — A suspect in a shooting in Allentown, Pennsylvania was found dead in New York City, police said. Emilary Milien Jr., of Allentown, was found shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday lying face down in an alleyway in Brooklyn, the New York Police Department said. Milien, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene. The city medical examiner’s office will determine his cause of death. Police in Allentown said Milien was a suspect in a shooting there earlier Saturday. A draft of a new law aimed at combating Islamic extremism was introduced by the French government Wednesday. The proposed law targets places like home schools and mosques that teach principles counter to French values, according to the Associated Press . President Emmanuel Macron has spoken recently about a need to rid France of “separatists” that are undermining the country. The Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol has renewed calls for federal domestic terrorism statutes akin to existing laws targeting foreign terrorist groups such as ISIS and al Qaeda. Similar demands were made in the aftermath of Robert Bowers’s anti-Semitic attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018. At the time, some legal experts argued that it was a moral imperative to label domestic violent extremists as terrorists equal to Islamist extremists.
