The unidentified woman from the South Jersey town of Mantua won her prize on a $2 bet while playing the Divine Fortune game at the SugarHouse Online Casino. The $287,945 payout was the largest online slots jackpot offered in the state. SEWELL, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey woman has hit the largest online slots jackpot offered in the state by Philadelphia's SugarHouse Online Casino. The unidentified woman from Sewell won $287,945 on a $2 bet on Thursday while playing the Divine Fortune game. The Press of Atlantic City reports the woman posted in a chat room that she hit the jackpot while on a conference call for her job. It's the largest win in New Jersey since SugarHouse entered the online gambling market there in 2016. Where does the line fall between an online casino game and an internet lottery? A lot of money is riding on the answer. Pennsylvania’s casino industry is challenging the Pennsylvania Lottery’s new iLottery internet gaming system, saying the state agency’s digital offerings mimic slot games in violation of the state’s gaming law. The law prohibits “interactive lottery games which simulate casino-style games.” Pennsylvania Revenue Secretary C. Daniel Hassell acknowledged in a June 29 letter to the casinos’ attorney, Mark Stewart, that the online lottery games were inappropriately marketed as “slot-style” or “casino-style.” Hassell blamed the advertising on an affiliate of the iLottery vendor, and said the practice had stopped. A player sits on a couch in Syracuse, or at a bar in Utica, or on the beach on Oneida Lake, and places a bet through one of the state's authorized casino betting venues. A problem? Yes, according to a national gaming expert who has a track record of insightful analysis of New York's gaming industry. The bettors placing those wagers would be within the 10-county region of Upstate New York in which the Oneida Indian Nation has a exclusive right to offer casino gambling.
