He was an 8-year-old boy living in a working-class Australian town when his mother won tickets on the radio to see Stevie Wonder in Sydney. "We caught the train down to Sydney, which is about three hours away and went to a Stevie Wonder concert," says Wakely, who's now 37. "I just remember thinking it was electric and celestial and extraordinary. At one point, Stevie Wonder asked everyone to close their eyes. I remember my mind being filled with color." Those vivid hues are now part of "Motown Magic," an animated children's series debuting Tuesday on Netflix. Brandon Roy has stepped down as Garfield’s boys basketball coach, a league source familiar with the program and Roy confirmed Thursday night. Garfield recently posted a job listing for a new coach. Representatives for the school and Roy were unavailable for comment. “I hate to see him go,” said Rainier Beach coach Mike Bethea, whose team lost the Metro League and Class 3A state tournament titles to Roy’s Bulldogs last winter. “It’s rare that you get coaches that are good for the league, and I think Brandon was one of those good young coaches that brought a lot to the league. When you think about Ed Pepple (Mercer Island), Al Hairston (O’Dea/Garfield), and myself, it was like a passing of the baton. Media: GeoBeats Science just can't thank Barack Obama enough. Despite Obama being out of office for well over a year, scientists are still throwing accolades his way. The latest? Naming a newly discovered sea creature after the former president. The disc-shaped animal was discovered by the UC Riverside and dubbed Obamus coronatus, given "Obama's passion for science," the university said in its announcement. The creature is described as having raised spiral grooves and growing to just over half an inch in length, existing in the ocean over 500 million years ago, but now extinct.
