One month away from training camp, the status of New England Patriots receiver Malcolm Mitchell remains one of the team's biggest question marks. A fourth-round pick in 2016, Mitchell showed tremendous promise as a rookie, emerging as a reliable possession receiver with impressive run-after-the-catch ability. Mitchell, who entered the NFL with medical concerns, missed the entire 2017 season due to lingering knee issues. He underwent multiple knee surgeries in college and dealt with a knee injury late in his rookie season. Mitchell never appeared fully comfortable in the 2017 preseason, as he was seen grabbing his right knee during the team's second exhibition game against the Texans. What's especially disconcerting for the Patriots: After spending the 2017 season on injured reserve, Mitchell was limited in spring practices. He did not participate in team or individual drills during New England's mandatory minicamp in early June. Appearing at a Saturday charity event to promote … [Read more...] about New England Patriots injury news: Will Malcolm Mitchell be ready for training camp?

Eight down, one to go. Nearly two months after being drafted, offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn has signed his contract with the New England Patriots, according to ESPN's Field Yates. The deal is for four years with a team option on the fifth season. With Wynn on board, running back Sony Michel is the lone member of the Patriots' nine-man draft class who has not signed his contract. A standout at Georgia, Wynn was the No. 23 overall pick in April's draft. He projects as a starter on New England's offensive line this season. Wynn has the ability to play both guard and tackle; he saw time on the interior during the team's spring practices. Wynn is the third offensive lineman selected in the first round by the Patriots since Bill Belichick assumed front office and coaching duties in 2000. The Pats selected Logan Mankins at No. 32 overall in 2005 and tabbed Nate Solder with the No. 17 pick in 2011. Sony Michel destined for greatness with Patriots … [Read more...] about New England Patriots news: First-round pick Isaiah Wynn signs contract (report)
BOSTON -- Three New England Patriots hosted a Tuesday night forum in Dorchester, leading a discussion with candidates running for Suffolk County District Attorney. Devin McCourty, Jason McCourty, and Matthew Slater took turns posing questions, as they touched on a wide range of topics from mass incarceration to the war on drugs to policies on mandatory minimum sentencing. The event, held in a packed auditorium at the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot middle school, featured Suffolk County district attorney candidates Evandro Carvalho, Linda Champion, Michael Maloney, Shannon McAuliffe and Rachael Rollins. As is the case in most debates, there were contentious moments on Tuesday night when a few hecklers interrupted the candidates. At one point, Jason McCourty helped to keep the discussion moving. "All I'm going to ask you, there's a lot of people in here, (is) just give everybody the chance to listen," McCourty said. Before the event began, Devin McCourty explained why the night was so … [Read more...] about Three New England Patriots host forum in Boston, pose questions to Suffolk County DA candidates
The NFL Network's countdown of the league's top 100 players a year ago featured five New England Patriots. Oddly, only one Patriot has appeared on the list this summer. Superstar tight end Rob Gronkowski checked in at No. 15 on the countdown. Gronkowski, who flirted with retirement this offseason, is coming off a year in which he earned a first-team All-Pro nomination with 69 catches for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns. Which NFL teams have most PED suspensions? This year's countdown features several former Patriots: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo grabbed the No. 90 spot after a red-hot finish to the 2017 season; Arizona Cardinals defensive end Chandler Jones was listed at No. 28 after leading the NFL with 17 sacks. The top 10 of the NFL Network's list will be revealed next week. Tom Brady, the league's MVP in 2017, is going for his second straight year atop the rankings. … [Read more...] about New England Patriots news: Rob Gronkowski on the board in NFL Network’s top 100 players list
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reflected on many events in his legendary career during an interview with Oprah this past weekend. Among the topics broached: Deflategate. Brady admitted that he made the decision to drop the appeal in 2016 because he was fighting a losing battle. "Just too much anxiety," Brady told Oprah. "I realized I couldn't win. It was divided attention and I was tired of that, tired of waking up and having a call with someone from the Players Association," Brady said. "I said, 'You know what, I'm going to use this as an opportunity, to have the month of September off for the first time in like 16, 21 years, and 'I'm going to take advantage of this.''' Brady continued: "The first thing we did -- my wife and my kids -- we flew out to see my parents. My mom was just starting treatment for cancer. And I said, 'We're going golfing. We're going to go to Pebble Beach.' And we went there. And we never went on a honeymoon, my wife and I, so we said, 'Look, we're … [Read more...] about New England Patriots QB Tom Brady reflects on Deflategate: ‘I realized I couldn’t win’
