PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The police commissioner of Philadelphia has suspended with intent to dismiss an off-duty police officer accused of driving under the influence when his car went out of control and crashed into a northeast Philadelphia home, hitting two residents and critically injuring one of them. Commissioner Danielle Outlaw earlier called the involvement of a police officer in such a case “appalling.” Gregory Campbell, 27, is charged with aggravated assault while driving under the influence and related charges including criminal mischief and aggravated assault by vehicle. Campbell, an officer for the past two years, was most recently assigned to the 14th district. NASHVILLE, TENN - Glen Campbell, the grinning, high-pitched entertainer whose dozens of hit singles included "Rhinestone Cowboy'' and "Wichita Lineman'' and whose appeal spanned country, pop, television and movies, died Tuesday, his family said. He was 81. In the late 1960s and well into the '70s, the Arkansas native seemed to be everywhere, known by his boyish face, wavy hair and friendly tenor. He won five Grammys, sold more than 45 million records, had 12 gold albums and 75 chart hits, including No. 1 songs with "Rhinestone Cowboy'' and "Southern Nights.'' His performance of the title song from "True Grit,'' a 1969 release in which he played a Texas Ranger alongside Oscar winner John Wayne, received an Academy Award nomination. NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - Grammy-winning guitarist and singer Glen Campbell is releasing his final studio album, recorded shortly after his Alzheimer's disease diagnosis in 2011. Campbell hasn't performed since 2012 and is in a long-term care facility, but his wife, Kim Campbell, said in a statement that he felt a sense of urgency after his diagnosis to record one last time. Democrats introduce bill to fix unemployment systems technology
Four Democratic Senators introduced a bill Wednesday aimed at revamping the technology powering the country’s unemployment insurance system. The Unemployment Insurance Technology Modernization Act would seek to create standardized unemployment websites and features that states could choose to adopt. The bill also calls for regular testing and servicing of unemployment systems and the establishment of a team at the Labor Department to help states with technological issues.
